i push out about 10-20gb a month easy and i bring in anywhere from 80-120gb per month.
it's weird because before when i lived in port moody id do that one month and they phoned me up. when i moved to surrey and switched to wireless internet (not that it would make any difference) and now i NEVER get emailed or phoned and i've been doing this constantly for the last 6-7 months. lets just keep my fingers crossed and hope they dont catch on. |

what kinda settings did you change on the router? Im sorta curious about mine, because the base comp gets waay faster speeds than the wireless comp. (even though both are still hella fast on xtreme) |

I was on the Linksys and had the same drop issues. Ironically after making this post yesterday I had the dropping return today, lol. However I plugged in another port on the router for a PC im working on and I assume it has juggled my Dlink settings. I cannot help you on your Linksys as Dlink is (in my opinion) proved much more stable when casting to the xbox 360.

had the emails, no phone calls
had shaw cut my connection once, i tried calling to have it fixed but the fckers mustve really wanted to punish me so my call kept going back on their phone queue, i stayed on hold for over and hour, called on my cell and got right through. pissed me off big time but when you talk to them you just say shit like 'i listen to internet radio' 'oh i left kazaa open' 'i work for a multi media co from home' blah blah blah i doubt the people who answer the calls really care. and then you tell them you'll fix the problem and they dont bother you for at least 8-9 months. been a year for me now other alternatives is to move downtown and get hooked into the fibre network just stay away from telus |

i had the regular high speed plan from them, ran it at full throttle for two months solid when i first got my server going, catching up on my torrents. had about 75 gigs up and down stream. didnt hear a word from them. this was around two years ago though. did something similar right before i planned to switch to dsl, and they got a bit upset. guess theyve started keeping a closer eye on that..

I just got shaw. I actually asked them this question when they were setting up. They responded with;
Theres no real cap, nothing that anyone could really hit anyways. If you sit and download full 'movie' for 24 hours a day everyday, then they will call you about it. But really... even the major hardcore downloaders have problems hitting that mark! Not exact words, but you get the idea. I havent had any problems yet! And Ive been downloading more then normal latley! |

last year i ran into 50/60gb for several months, got 2 emails and 1 phone call from Shaw... they threaten to ban me for a week
lately i've been trying to keep it near 30gb and even went into 40gb in one month.... haven't got a phone call yet so i try to keep it around 30gb i also have brought the extra ip thing (two computers in house) and i should be getting more bandwidth :428: |

Basically, THB is using the high speed internets, you're capped at about 60 gigs per month. Now, i've gotten speeds of 480k/sec downloading from newsgroups (fuck torrents for anything over 400mb) You're usually looking at 4.7d and .5 up. Xtreme you go upto 7mbd and 1mbu plus you cap is at aroung 100gigs per month Some other reasons: It also depends on net congestion the site itself peers downloading from how many computers hooked up to the same connection what type of modem you have what type of router you have the place where the connection is (moving the modem around tend to lose speeds and signal) splitters hooked up if the modem has been on for long periods of time, same with router (unplugging each for 30 seconds, usually fixes up that) also any antivirus you might have can slow connection down. For the ultimate way of seeing how shit your connection is www.speakeasy.net/speedtest remember, around 4.7mb down and .3-4k up edit: the only reason you'd need two ip's is if you're running a hub, if its a router. the router will give your computer a 192 ip, which has nothing to do with speed. If you didnt know that, then im sure your connection is just fine and you're very, very, very new to computers. Last edited by ppcock; Jun 05, 06 at 10:01 PM. |
