Insomnia
Seriously I can't even deal with this anymore, I went to my doctor and he requested I stop 'self medicating' with caffeine.
So I've been drinking coffee in really minimal amounts and I was ok for a day or two but now it's back again. I'll go to bed at midnight or 1:00ish on the average night and I don't fall asleep until 3 or 4 and even then it's just like a series of short naps. What's worse is it's my second week at a new job and I'm sick and coughing -because I figure my immune system is down from the lack of sleep and it feels like all the cough medicine in the world can't help me. Has anyone else suffered from insomnia and if so how did you go about coping with it? |

Ive had problems sleeping before either becuase:
- caffine 4 hours or less before bed (includes chocolate, sugar, coke, tea etc) - Naps in the afternoon. I try so hard to not nap and then just go to bed early around 10-11pm. - Eating big before bed - Mentaly if your feeling deprest, worried, excited, thinking too much etc - Physicaly if you excercise or run around alot before bed - Being young and still in your teens. Untill I was 20-21 I could never fall asleep untill around 2am and would want to sleep in every day. Suddenly at 21 I was able to go to bed at 9 and wake up at 530 the next day feeling fine. Sugestions: Warm/hot milk, hot bath/shower , read, lie in bed and watch tv before sleeping with very low volume, write in a journal if your thoughts are racing, low lighting, find some cooling down excercises that help relax your body. |

yeah, melatonin works pretty well. you should try it. i'm actually going to buy some sometime this week.
i've been taking 5-htp for the past few weeks and that seems to have helped a bit as well. i'm really realizing how important sleep is for my general health and well-being. if i don't get enough, i get extremely irritable and have a hard time concentrating. |

I've always had the exact same problem. it would be rare for me to fall asleep before 3 or 4 am even if i go to bed early. I find now that being very active throughout the day and doing lots of physical activity has made a great improvment. I am almost always asleep almost right after i go to bed.

I'll look into getting some melatonin and 5 htp.
My diet hasn't significantly changed in the last couple of years. I eat relatively healthy but I was overdoing the caffeine. I've cut down a lot on the alcohol in the last month and I've reduced my caffeine intake, so if anything my sleep patterns should be more stable but they're not. |

This happens to me quite frequently. I lay in bed im dead tired, but my mind is wide awake. It may sound stupid but what i do to fall asleep, imagine urself laying on a beach and imagine the sounds of the waves coming in and going out. Imagine the sun hitting you and you feel so relaxed. Just keep imagining the sounds of the waves and next thing i know i wake up usually. Sounds kinda fishy but it works for me :117:

i never sleep a whole night beeen dealing with iit for ever. But my doctor gave me some sleeping pills (they suck) don't take them they mess up your whole body. so she told me to try these herbal pills called melonoma( can't spell) they help and they are not bad for you. they may not knock you out but they will help you get a couple hours of sleep, you just have to take them regularly. and i was also told that magnesium is also good to help you sleep . Just a couple of ideas i go day to day with no sleep and the longer you deal with it the harder it is on your body take my word for it , you don't want to be sick every week and walk around like a zombie all the time it really starts to get the best of you and your life.
