Ugh my job..

As much as i love my job as a welder (The pay is great, and im a pyro-maniac so playing with torches, and super hot metal is quite fun :D ) This weather is TOOOOO FUCKING MUCH. I dont mind the heat, hell I love it!!! But having to play with hot metal and fire all day indoors wearing leather material so i dont catch on fire is quite a pain in the ass.. these past 2 days of work i havnt felt this drained from work in ages !

Im not looking for pity just a general rant about the heat/work :D Anyone else in the same boat with me? Sometimes i wish i took the cushy office job downtown where i bet they're sitting in there nice cubicles with their air conditioning, and water cooler talk...

/rant

I weld re-bar inside concrete pipes. So im in a 24 inch pipe welding for hours at a time. Now heres the kicker... concrete products are steamed at like 450 degrees to help them cure faster. This happens over night but they dont fully cool for another day after that. So thats pretty hot.

Be lucky that you done work out in the desert. I use to work in a small out back town in Australia. I knew alot of welders and heard the horror stories. Not only did Cloncurry Aus get up to 51 celciouse in the summer alone, but the welders would work way down in mines under direct sunlight for over 12-14 hours a day. They told me it would get up to 60-70 degrees.

They were paid and taken care of well.

BEEN THERE.

Trying to wrestle medication into a 200-lb calf in 45-degree heat is not a fun or easy task.

Working the Ramp at Vancouver International, Boundary Bay and Pearson for four 4 years.

Asphalt, cramped spaces, heavy work and high humidity for a 12 hour shift or a 28 hour marathon sucks.

It's going to be plus 35 today ... I work nights , so it's not as bad for me ...but the first few hours of my shift are during the hottest part of the day. I ditched my leathers for a jean shirt last night , got a couple of rollers down the sleeve ...but no burns. I went to the intrumentation shop and rigged up a regulator with a valve , attached it to the air hose and voila...a personal air conditioner. I stayed out of the tanks ...(you can hardly breath when your running a torch )and just welded out skids all night. Tonight I'm going to ditch the carharts and throw on an old pair of jeans. You think welding is bad in this welder? ...try framing.

I'm so glad this week is over.

The only thing worse than welding in 30 degree heat , is the smell of moths and junebugs flying into a 3/16 7018 bead (holy fucking porosity) . Just thinking about it makes me sick. No work until monday at 5 pm is a good feeling though. Mucho cerveza.
