save up for a few months or a few weeks, whatever it takes you to get some tech12's. trust me, I made a huge mistake going for beginner numarks. If you learn on numarks and when you move to techs it is huge, you are going to have to relearn everything. Even if you buy used techs they are still as good as new, they are like tanks, they never die. NEVER. lol

i had numarks for a straight year.. beginner decks helped me because u can learn bpm on them and also how to fix ur mix when ur off beat. I really do suggest beginner decks and then save up and sell them n buy techs once u get the hand of everything.. jus my opinon cause i started off with numarks

If your serious about starting you'll end up having to pay more later to get better gear and the resale value for beginner decks is crap. Techs can at least be resold for a good price.

Learn on whatever you can get your hands on, shit decks/techs/wahtever. Shit decks will make your mixing stronger cause you'll learn to deal with all the crap that comes with them such as low torque, drifting and excessive skipping. If you like the hobby, get the techs and take it from there. And for the few times you get stuck on a sub par setup you won't look like an ass having learned on shit.

Yes the resale value is crap, but right there is an opportunity to get setup for next to nothing.

Im wanting to sell my Vestex pro 6 mixer sometime soon. Its more of a hip hop/scrach mixer and really basic. 2 channel, hamster switch, and still in great condition. Never had any problems. pm me if intrested.

When I first got my gear I saved and went all out. I personaly think going with techs will save you money in the long run. Its lasted me over 4 years and will probly last a life time. Also you can get some pretty good deals on second hand techs... I see them all the time on fnk, clubvibes etc. I also went all out becuase in case I though dj'ing wasnt what I wanted... selling the equipment would give me a better deal then buying and selling shitty equipment.

I dont know if I agree with the idea of learning on shitty decks. Becuase when you play out 99% of the time youll be playing on techs and wont be use to the hard drive power. However if you can master playing on shitty decks... then you got yoruself a skill... but how often will you find yourself playing on shitty decks besides your own?

(thanks for all the input everybody) k well i think im just gonna save a bit more and hopefully find some cheap techs and a good mixer.. if i cant find any in my price range i'll get some decent decks that arent entry level and can compare with techs(im sure its arguable that nothing can really compete with them though haha) still havent bought so list any gear that your selling...vinyl too!!

thaaaaat's bullshit. I hate it when people say that.
if a club can't afford techs, then that doesn't say much for the gig. I've played at pretty much all clubs here in lower mainland.. and many other places in the world. i have NEVER come across any "crap" tables.

buying crap tables won't make you better at anything. That's like saying driving a crappy car makes you a better driver!?
frankly, crap tables are a waste of money AND a waste of time!!!

well, pardon me superstar international dj "god." If you haven't learned on a shitty setup then how would you know? And believe it or not, some DJ's start with shitty gigs at shitty clubs or shitty parties early on.

You gotta start somewhere and if you have the drive but not the skrill then get cheap decks and start learning. Different strokes for different folks ya know?

Cheap decks are harder to use, thus the need to develop "skill" in order to master using them. Make sense? When you make the transition to 1200's it's smooth sailing.
Not a hard concept to grasp.

i started on shit tables (i.e. non-dj listening tables with floating platters, digital pitch controls that only went to +/-6 and almost no torque) and when I got my techs it suddenly made everything so much easier. I'll have to agree with Lenny on this.

It's not going to make you a super cool DJ, but if you learn basic beatmatching on a set of shit decks, you'll see an amazing improvement when you switch to real decks.
