The Industry Standard

I'm doing a presentation tomorrow at school on DJ equipment and what is considered the industry standard OR considered the best quality products that are on the market. I'm pretty much done my project, just curious to see what you guys think are at the top of the heap in DJ gear in each of these categories:

Turntables:
Cartridges:
Mixers:
Headphones:
CDJ's:
Amplifiers:
Compressors:
Monitors:

nabs is an unknown quantity at this point
Turntables: Technics 1200 MK2. and also the best decks ive used are Numark TTX
Carts: Shure M44G (somethingl ike that) <-- best for mixing, but for sound quality, Ortofon's.
Mixers: Allen & Heath Xone:62, 64.
Headphones: Sony MDRV700's <--possibly the standard, i have Denon DN-HP1000, i believe they are way better than the sony's.
CDj's: Pioneer CDJ800 or 1000MK2
Amps: no idea but im guessing something by Mackie??
Nomalizers: no idea
Monitors: no idea

thats what i think. hopefully its some help.

^ you pretty much nailed everything I had already written about, however I chose the Pioneer600 over the Xone mixers.

Oh and I think that the Xone:92 is more standard than the mixers you chose.

Xone 92's are monsters. i got to use one at SummerBreak. very nice.

imo. pioneers are designed more for scratching. but they look wicked. Ecler Nuo 4,5 are probably the best i found for mixing, so much versatility.

M44-7's are the standard carts (hip hop, DNB etc)
Serato is standard on that ish
1200s for sure, the ttx's suck, are only digital, and look plastic
pioneer 1000MK2's for CDJ's
the A&H 62 is more for UK or Trance DJ's. 600s also standard.
SONY headphones seem to be standard but i prefer sennheiser.
For PA's i always see the SRM450's being used.

Pioneers600's are not scratch mixers...

Ecler Nuo's are known more for scratching and they also have better x-faders to stand the abuse.

ttx1's convert the analog signal and yes i have plenty of play on them. I've also know some people who have ones that have broken down with time. Platter doesen't get up to speed and u have to give it a shove after pressing start.

Pacific Audio & Visual Institute.

the course is great you get classes on "Artist Management & Representation" , "Concert promoting & Tradeshow's" , "Film Production & Administration" , "Marketing & Promotion" , "Film Making" I wont list them all but you get the drift.

Next year I'm penciled in for "Film Production & Digital Arts" which is hands on camera work, and working with video editing equipent and anything relevant to that.

Well we do get speakers that come in who have worked in the field. So if you wanted to sit in class sometime let me know and I'll let one of my instructors know. And I can find out who's coming in to speak next.

ahhh, really cool man, that must be fantasic.good job carlos!

i looked real hard at pavi, well it was trebas insitute back then. or was it columbia? i cant remember.

anyway, after i did my douglas audio shit, i chose vfs sound design. but not till im 25 or 26 and finished traveling and ready to settle in a full on career.

but, as i get older and more buisness keen, esp after working were i do, the buisness side of it all looks very, very appealing. ..i mean 1.6 bil for youtube wich was mostly independant media?,,,,thats hardcore dollars in about 9 months time.

heh, well ive never had issues with the motor or torque, or response time, in fact the reason i prefer them to techs is because of the faster response time.... I know a few people who have them as well and have never heard of that happening.

Id say the biggest criticisms I have toward the txx1's beside the fact they are not standard, is the way the tone arm is constructed, its not as solid as the techs, other than that I think they are higher performance turntable when compared to the techs, they are far more accurate, hold their pitch much longer and correct way quicker.

you can imagine then how many jobs are available in the music and or film industry as we speak. with some serious networking, hard-work and maybe a tiny pinch of luck you can seriously make something happen.

Vancouver is the place to be right now.

For studio use:

Turntables: tech 12's m3d's, Pioneer CDJ1000's
Mixers: Pioneer djm 600
Headphones: I like my technics rp-dj1200
CDJ's: pioneers
Amplifiers: fuck em, just go into your computer.. this should be soundcards.
Monitors: Mackie's, or a sexy 7.1 setup.. drool worthy.

I dont have a studio, i set everything up via my computer. Recording, producing (or trying to).

I need to get a mac asap.

Hiphop DJs perspective is pretty different methinks.

I also despise any mixer made by Allen & Heath as do the majority of non-electronic djs i know. The x-faders on those things are pure shit.

Turntables: Tech 12s
Cartridges: Sure M44-7
Mixers: Rane ttm56
Headphones: probably the sony's but i prefer Senheisser SP-25s
CDJ's: Pioneer CDJ1000s
Amplifiers: no clue
Normalizers: again, no clue
Monitors: Mackies
