its funny, cos when i decided to change focus from Dnb to slower stuff, the artists i was trying to emulate were tipper, lorin, and edit, but after a few months my tunes started to sound less and less like someone elses shit and more and more like my own, which is where i could have originally only hoped to be at in terms of songwriting, especially this early in my production career (only 5 years from first touching cubase).
its also much more rewarding musically to branch off into other realms (not dnb) than trying just to match up to all the dnb talent we already have locally (pacific, psidream, krusha and dabbler now too). it gives me musical freedom to not be competing with anyone but myself
