*This* is the direction Ableton artists should be going
http://www.realtablist.com/clips/ableton_set_02.MOV
really impressive stuff. I'd rather see someone create tracks and sets like this than seeing some guy hunched over a laptop triggering loops or even worse... "DJing" with Ableton... Reminds me a bit of what DJ Radar was doing years ago (although he didn't have the luxary of using ableton and needed to custom build his stuff). |

I'm finding that not all tracks match perfectly in Ableton.. if the track doesn't start immediately in the first beat, then you have to do some manual editing. Other then that, not having to match is the one thing I don't like about it. I'm still working on my beatmatching whenever I get a chance though. The idea of going digital and not actually being able to spin just doesn't seem right.

I don't think there's one direction that 'Ableton artists' should go in.
I think it's like Photoshop - just a powerful tool with a tonne of possibilities, and like any tool it won't do anything for you if you don't have a clear idea of just where you want to go with it. We call folks that work with Photoshop "digital artists", not "Photoshop artists". :) |

tiedie: yep, using it to replace the old mixer flightcase... tho the "laptop" is a smokin' fast home-built 1U rackmount PC, and I've configured Ableton to the point that I don't need a monitor on stage, just my BCF2000 MIDI controller. :)
Soo: wholeheartedly agreed, it's all about stage presence. Same way I don't want to watch a metal concert where everyone is sitting.. ;) |

This I've got to see. Hopefully you're playing out sometime in late Feb when I visit. I'd love to check out the equipment in action.

DJ Radar was still the first to innovate the idea of live looping in a dj context i think... |
