When it comes to sets from DJ's within the FnK community it's 99.9% from the personal promo section.
I like it when a DJ takes the time to tell me what I'm in for.... genre specification, track listing.... and hell.... HYPE IT UP A BIT! You should be proud of your work. Just be sure to allow that constructive criticism you might get to allow you to improve and not take it as an insult. |

That's always the idea I have as well from my point of view when I post it in the personal promo section, it allows DJs/artists/etc to talk a little more about it, provide track lists, and hear some feedback as well. Putting a link in the signature tho, should be used as a means of supporting that promo thread, but to a certain extent it is still VERY good for generating awareness which I also feel is important too. Mind you, its most established DJ's that can really get away with having just a stand-a-lone link in their sig. I guess one could argue it from a few ways, I firmly believe that no matter how established you are, you still need to hustle...(little bit off topic, I mean look at Coke and Pepsi, everyone has heard of them, but you still see their advertising all over) Ultimately it comes down to the individual I guess. I think that yes, adding to the very good post above, DJ's that take the time to do both, AT MINIMUM, catches the eye of a general audience, but i found usually (at least from my past experience) usually an absolute rocking mix will tend to sell itself when both of those areas are covered. Good thread. Should be interesting to see what people say. =)

I'll download just about any mix I come across, I'm a fiend for mixes... Sometimes I'll listen to all of five minutes before ditching it entirely... other times I find gems that never leave the ipod.
Of course, I'll be more likely to download if it's hyped up a little, see a track I like in the listing, or if it's by a friend/acquaintance/someone I've heard before. |

/\ I totally agree. I usually go for anything that catches my eye, either in the personal promo section or in sigs. When I'm looking in the personal promo section I really like to see the tracklist posted. It helps giving your listener a preview of whats to come especially when they're gonna be streaming the mix and it hasn't got any indexes.

I'll download a mix based on genre and who's put it out and the odd one doesn't get deleted right away. A lot of people should in my opinion put way more time and effort into putting out better quality mixes. I guess on the other side of things if you feel you have a mix that has taken some time to put together and is the best you are capable of then why not get some feedback.

i mean for me personally i pretty much download everything in personal promo..
i usually give everything a full round listen once.. unless its realllly bad.. . and the good ones i just add to full time playlist. i love hearing local mixes .. seeing what others did with tracks i own. or hearing new songs and tracks in other genres that i didnt know existed |

Definately like to grab local mixes and check them out. Usually grab them from people that I recognize somewhat, or if its a style I like and maybe a track or 2 I recognize. Doesnt really matter where the link it, but I like to at least know what I'm getting into.
PS. Hey look! A link in my sig!! weird.... |

I dl alot of mixes when i hear good reviews, and the genre suits me.. but im terrible sometimes as i do alot of stuff on teh internet that just doesnt facilitate downloading mixes all the time.. i need the bandwidth for other things at the same time... and then another factor is getting around to listening to it.. i get alot of music off of di.fm which makes listening to independant mixes more of a challenge when im looking for good music for the mp3 player

usually its the tracklisting and the reviews that get me to check out a mix. I mostly look for tracklistings that don't look like last months (or this months) top 10 list because that shit is fucking gay!!
its all about how creative and original the Dj can be with the track and mix selection. |
