DJs/Producers; What you spin vs. what you make?
So, I know theres alot of DJs who spin/play a certin type of music, but who will produce/make something other then what they play out live.
Anyone produce something other then what they play? What? |

i produce mostly hip hop, breaks and trip hop.... as well as some experimental sound design stuff.
but I spin basically everything and anything under the sun- whatever I feel will rock some faces off. Classic Rock, EDM, Funk, Soul, Hip Hop, Jazz, my own original bootleg work... etc. etc. mash-up 4 life |

I've been experimenting with some downtempo broken beat stuff lately... recording wierd noises from my various instruments, making beats on a bass... trying to go as experimental as my novice production knowledge will allow.
And I've been spinning dark techy breaks for about three months now, both on vinyl and in Ableton. |

well I don't "spin", so I guess I can't fully answer, but I usually make/play out hiphop @ parties n ' that sorta thing. Lately Ive been working on an album with a singer doing everything from dark twisted industrial shit with guitar riffs to funky jazzy bluesy type songs.. it's gunna be quite the album I must say. The top 3 songs on my soundclick I just put up are teasers to give y'all an idea.

I generally produce the same stuff as I spin, from funky techno to acid house, to groove house. http://www.beatport.com/dj+jakub

^ curious as to why you'd try sellin a CD of the same song remixed 5 times? If you want people to buy your stuff, Id say try gettin more diverse with the style / sampling / loops n' what not. Sorry not tryin to be rude, just an observation.

I've been really trying to keep myself as open minded to new music, typically, I play psy prog, and psy....as well as produce a lot of psy driven tunes.
Lately I've been experimenting with a lot of tech trance and tribal techno...mind you if a track has a lot of energy, with an interesting groove, a killargh bassline, it holds my attention, providing dynamically, the tune goes somewhere :) |
