DJs... Upload your demos
WHP Muzak is online. I've been dropping all the demos I've received over the past couple years into it to seed it.
If you've got a demo, theres two ways to get it in. First, encode it in 56kbps mono, MP3 or WMA-8. (The sound is OK, and it saves more space for everybody), and write a short TXT file with your contact info and tracklist if you want. One would be to rip your CD into 1.5Mb chunks and upload it using the web-interface at www.wickedhouseparty.org/muzak.htm Another would be to rip it into chunks and ZIP it and get it to me. ICQ me for an uploading method. I'm trying to cumulate a large area of "DJ on the ground" demos. The 1.5Mb chunksize ensures everyone gets a quality nonbuffered listen to hear your mixes, including those abroad and on dial-up. :) |

I've had a few people interested who couldn't figure out how to upload. The problem is most people are running 128-256Kb Mp3s. A CD at that bitrate is very large, around 70-100 Megs.
Heres how to easily (and without buying any software) convert your file down to reasonable streaming limits. (Wickedhouseparty does run it's own server, but both bandwidth and storage space are a concrete issue when you're talking 30Kb/sec streams) 1. If you've got a CD with tracks markers already, its a peice of cake. Download a CD-MP3 ripper and set the options for MP3 output to 56kbps MONO. Most 3-5 minute tracks will come out under 2Mb. 2. If you've got a one-track CD, or a big posty MP3, its a bit trickier. - Get the file in MP3 format. - Re-encode it using a resampling utility. This would be a good one: http://downloads-zdnet.com.com/redir...-10116999.html - Go to WHP muzak, in the main dir there is a MP3 splitting utility, if you need one. Set the split size to a max of 1.5 Mb. - Upload each segment using the web interface If you have problems, feel free to ICQ me (at bottom in my tag). If you're confused about whether you need to do anything to your file, heres a bit of info. > If you MP3 is larger than 1.5 Mb, you need to split it to upload it. > If the total size of your demo is more than 20Mb, then you probably need to resample it. A 74 minute CD compacts to 13-18Mb at 56kbps mono, if your total demo size is higher, use the utulity above to lower the bitrate. =) |
