What seems to happen to most DJs is that they stop buying records because they can't afford them, and then eventually decide to just liquidate all their stuff. Personally I love my record collection and I bought them for me, not to become a superstar DJ, and as a result of that I'd never sell them.

most djs just do it for fun while doing other things like going to school or working their way up at work.... if you have the commitment to be a full time dj then yeah theres better chances of being a superstar dj, but other than that prolly just stop buying records and sell off all the gear...

i'm not gonna give up djing but its not like i'm gonna devote my life to becoming a superstar dj... hahahahah we all have other things we wanna persue in life

I'm sure money becomes an issue for some. Black crack isn't all that cheap right.

I'm sure though, that a lot of it falls in the same category as a lot of party kids. They just stop... they can't explain why... they just stop. If they truly love the music they may continue on as a bedroom dj but that's it.

One of my fave locals disappeared and I haven't seen him spin in over a year. Shame too.... he was good.

Sykonee will become famous soon enough
Once they realize DJing isn't getting them as much poontang as they had thought, they end up selling their gear and vinyl at a quarter of the original cost in order to pay their bills (whatever those bills may be tends to vary).

Granted, this is only one senario. DJ's disappear for many reasons. For instance, near Roswell...:smoke1:

i havent played a party since april i think

Im not bitching too much... Just been working on new styles like different types of techno
Goa/psy
a bit of drum and bass
and hardcore

With the plan in incorporating all these genres into a set to give every electronica listener their favourite type of music in a 1-2 hour set.

Right now i've worked trance -> techno -> goa set

I love all these styles soooooo much that i cannot stick with just one style.

Werd, if you stick to it you will have success, you just have to work hard and be in it for the long run. I'm not saying you'll be Carl Cox, But working as a Dj/Producer beats any other job to me.

DJing is something that is an ever-learning process.

You can do it forever and never stop learning. Some people get sick of learning, some people dont. Depends on how determined you are to be a good DJ.

Although I have to say that not all DJs just *dissapear*. I've met quite a few kick-ass DJs who dont play out because of all the ass-kissing involved. They're quite content to play at houseparties and friends parties because they love doing it not for money or fame.
