hard trance
ya'll no i always dog trance because i think 90% of its cheese, but you know what i would really like to see is some really hard trance mixed with techno being spun at a plaza party. i mean at heat the warp brother played a pretty dope set, i have to admit. but who i would like to see head line a plaza party is either christopher lawerence of oliver lieb...i eman these guys play some HARD fuckin shit, im tired of the typical cheese, i don't want to see two thousand drug adled asian people when i look over the mezzanine at plaza, i wanna see those same drug adled people to go off, go off to some fuckin booming hard trance, some ass kicking, curb stomping, flailing inducing shit....FUCK!!..if the main room of plaza went off like the theatre room, it would be dope.
and everyone who complains about the scene suckin and has their own little way to fix it is clueless..it will never be fixed..raving in vancouver was a fad, thats why it got so big and then burnt itself out. it was a fad just like breakdancing was in the 80's..thers really nothing you can do except get better dj's, kick the drug addicts out, and promote to an older crowd....the scene needs to go underground to heal itself..thats my personal opinion. the elcetronic scene will never be popular again in a city that is so pedestrian as to eat up the top40 crap like its gourmet..whut the fuck?! how can anyone like that trash, i ahte this place..people are so fuckin dumb. rather dance to enimem then some sick breaks, or pounding DnB fuck i don't know why im wiritng this..im hosed..hahah what a joke, soon im gonna make my own webpage and give state of the scene address like im some elite raver who calls himself ishkur....haha..state of the scene:it sucks!(except for a few aspects) |

I think hard trance, hard house, and hard techno are in really good shape right now (musically speaking). It's cool cause they seem to be borowing elements from each other, and djs like Andy Farley are playing all these styles together. "Hard Dance" djs kick some seriouse ass! That's what I'm aspiring to do myself.

As great as hard trance (or, as I call it, "real" trance) is, it's just not commercially viable. Therefore, the chances of seeing a Plaza party with "real" trance as a headliner are quite slim, save the odd big-time DJ like Lawrence making a rare appearence in our cheesey-tune-ridden city.

what about progressive? isnt that "real" enough? |

^fishy i'm gonna have to agree with sykonee
this city is just absolulty washed with cheezy hard anthems. theres no programming factor involved now, which is a huge aspect of trance/progressive/techno etc... they dont have trance djs in the top 10 of the world for nothing. they are incredible djs who present music better than your much better than average dj. sayings like i will take you on a jouney in the trance... cheezy saying that that have alot more indepth meaning that you would really think.... and u can only understand it once u've really witnessed djing at its best. not saying u havent im just saying this city doesnt have that at all. christopher lawrence is named the us best trance dj for a reason. he doesnt play a set packed with hard anthems. he'll play em but he plays them right. think about that one =) |

hands down the most deserving winner of today's "the should have been sarcastic but wasn't" award!! BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA 2 minute breakdowns and buildups isnt a slight against trance, its part of a hell of a lot of trance, good trance too! |

Well, forgive me for listening to trance from it's pre-97 roots. :060: All kidding aside, my comment wasn't a diss on the breakdowns and buildups, merely an observation on how they are more apparent and, at times, over-utilized uses of energy builders compared to other, less conventional means. |

A well done breakdown and buildup is heavenly (see Flash - The Day After (Perfecto remix) if you want a good example of what I'd consider to be an excellently done buildup and breakdown, high energy and no cheese), and a transparent, formulaic breakdown/buildup is just retarded. So, I guess I agree with both of you guys here.
I disagree that progressive is lacking energy, when constructed and layered properly it can have a huge amount of energy, people in this city are just too used to formulaic hardhouse and get bored if there isn't a hugeassed snare roll every 5 minutes. When I play at say, Viva on Friday and the crowd is obviously more into a cheesy style, I incorporate some prog in there between tracks with energetic breakdowns and buildups, and it works really well. If I were to play an hour of straight prog they'd probably all trip out and or leave though =P |
