I'm curious - Who actually has decks and spins regularly?

In the UK, 1 in 4 own a pair of decks.

3 new record shops just opened.

This could be an excellent thing for Vancouver.. Maybe we can build/develop a strong unique sound..

"That west coast vancouver sound"

I'm excited to see these new shops, the competition will be fierce!

Lower prices and a better selection!

=)

i know! i hope vancouver can get known as a place of great musical production. i know theres already the whole "progressive west coast tek" thing going on, but it would be wicked to see van develop into a world contender with that sort of thing.

and yah, new record shops are great! =)

What are the new record shops? I heard one opened up across the street from Bassix? Where else? What genres do they serve?

The only producer in this city right now to put Vancouver on the map (at least in the genres I follow, prog and trance), is Jay Tripwire. Hopefully that'll change soon though.

Active Pass is accross the street from Bassix, but i'm not aware of any new shop near Otis (perhaps you're thinking of Vinyl?), unless you still consider Boomtown new after nearly 4 years!

Nancy Kyd runs Zion's Gate, not Leanne. Lee's running the Rhythm Institute out of my shop.

I find it terribly ironic that, as the dance music industry experiences it's biggest recession in probably the past 20 years, all of a sudden everybody & their uncle decides to open a record shop! It's not over yet, either - i know of at least one more shop opening in the months to come. insanity. they won't all last, we'll see who pulls through! good luck to each and every one of 'em, they will need it!

Hes not the only one, Dave Armstrong, Christian Alvarez are becoming pretty big and I think Sean Dimitrie and Ali are somewhat know as well. There are alot o new producers in vancouver and theyre all getting huge reviews from outside van, this citys starting to become a goldmine for producers

^^^ WERD to Dave Armstrong and Christian Alvarez... those boyz are signed to multiple International labels. Christian is working with Kid Creme right now! Insane... Both of them have had their rekkids played by the likes of Olav and DJ Antoine (who is at Simple this weekend!)

Peace.

Also, Psidream & Quadra are putting Vancouver on the DnB map. Psidream just had a tune remixed by Stakka, and has a 12" forthcoming on Breakbeat Science which will purportedly be included on DJ Dara's new mix cd. Quadra (DJ Matty & Mark Soo) have just had a heap of tunes picked up by DJ Teebee for release on his respected Subtitles imprint.

Excellent news. Like I said, I only follow prog and trance, and in that dept. only Jay Tripwire is representing with any force.

yeah man..vancouver loves progressive tek house....its allt ehy play in the clubs...gtes kind of boring after awhile

why would they have hardcore? hardcore sucks..ahahha just joking, but why would they have hardcore when its only you and a handful of other people in this city that spin it? it dosn't make good buisness sense to waste shelf space for music that dosn't have a large local following.

sean, actually kiki aka Powerplant has quite a few releases that have been featured on Bedrock compilations etc. recently.

check Sunkissed, Teknology (Hamel style) deep proggy stuff
not my style, and prolly not yours either so.. easy to overlook..

id love to see places promoting progressive tech house or whatever.. but what all the locals play is more like boring west coast house :D
