pete tong essential selection, not so good lately?

i found lately his track list has been pretty dry... any idea where i can find some good house HITS to listen to, not this overly repetitive garbage with no hook at all? i get that house is generally repetitive, but at least sometimes there's buildups, some interesting vocals, or at least some kind of melody.

Ive found that house in general has seemed a little dry for a while now. Ever since Electro house got huge over the summer, nearly every track made tries to incorporate some kind of electro bass line or tweeky highs which is getting really annoying and repetitive. Not to mention there has been a lot of minimal and techno influence as well. Some of it is really good stuff, but again I could really go for some new more organic sounding house.

freshly mixed covers some great radio shows, including most of Radio 1's showcase as well as Kiss 100's and so forth. membership is cheap (I have not had to ever renew at like $10) and the archives of great sets are limitless. let me know if ya nab an account, I'll recommend some killer stuff.

agreed @ essential selections.

Although they seem to pick up in May/June as the summer hits start really rolling in.

there's tons out.. for starters check out traxsource.com and download their radio shows.

I haven' listened to the essential selection in ages, but my comments were directed at a lack of good house. And thats just not the case. There's tons out there. But i guess posting my opinion will 'essentially' result in my post being collapsed by an admin that doesn't like me.

i agree.. there's loads of good party house about these days. while electro house was undoubtedly the sound of 2006, there's still some good electrohouse spilling over to this year. seamus haji is the man of the moment. he has pumped out so many awesome electrohouse remixes recently it's bizarre. his eerie take on the sugababes 'easy' is lovely, and his electrofied version of 'last night a dj saved my life' is wicked. it's total cheese but it's excellent to party to. go seamus.

A lot of what Pete Tong has been playing and what youll find in the record shops and mp3 sites are high pitched tweaks, dirty fat electro bass lines, techno, and minimal elements in almost every track out there. And as much as I love that dirty fat bass line and quality techno, I can only get excited about it so many times before it sounds like every other track out there. What I find funny is the crowed hasn't really gotten sick of it yet. I can play electro bass banger after electro bass banger and they keep going off to it... but it may catch on to them soon.

Hernan Cattaneo, DNOX & Beckers Erick Morillo, yes for sure, these guys have some mad sets they've been dropping lately. Happy searching.

Oh and yes to the ES not being to hot lately, agreed, it comes and goes in waves depending on release windows, season, etc, should see how it is come May long weekend, I remember last year, that's when it started to pick up a bit, we'll see

Looking for live sets vs. looking for fresh tracks to purchase as a DJ are two different things. Hernan Cattaneo and Erick Morillo do carry a much more organic sound and good quality to their sets/tracks. However someone like Eric Morillo tends to stick with remixing house classics than coming up with something fresh. Finding a fresh sound away from this electro craze is hard unless its deep.

deep house is boring and slow imo. and i gotta clarify a bit... when i listen to the ES i listen for tracks i like, find them on the track list, then download the songs i liked off the set. so when you point out djs that play a good set, is it the track selection, or their ability to dj that you like? pete tong doesn't do much mixing or anything during the es, especially the one they play on the beat. its mainly radio edits with no mixing in between tracks

Deep House... at one point I felt the same, but there does come a time when you will realize that deep house IS HOUSE at its finest. Just give it some time ;)
I understand there is no mixing and I only listen because Pete tong is a god for knowing the hottest new tracks at the moment. Which is why if the ES hasn't been so hot lately than its most likely that the rest of the tracks coming out arnt either. Not to mention what ive been searching for in local shops and on line hasn't been that much better.

Anyways what I forgot to mention when listening to DJ sets for new tracks, you don't always get a track selection, the track isn't out yet, or very hard to find if so. Not to mention DJ's like Morillo hardly ever have anything fresh other than remixes in their sets.
