"Free" ftp space to host your demo mp3's?
I'm curious to know if there is a demand out there for such a site.
I've hosted a couple of sets for friends, and now that my ftp site is cleaned up and more stable, I thought I might extend it to other DJ's and at the same time I get to listen to some fresh stuff. You can upload your music and it stays up for 3 days then it is deleted. I would like to leave it up longer but I don't know if I would be nailed with extra bandwidth charges. If I do I'll pass it down to the user! :c-tard: Comments?? |

extra bandwidth charges?
i run an ftp almost 24/7 and do about 2gigs of transfers a day... at least... my bill isn't getting any bigger... why not set up a website for dj profiles, link their demos to a reliable ftp... that way things are a little more inviting to promoters or whoever, looking for someone elses demo... if you keep the site relatively simple (by this i mean no php/cgi/perl/etc. that require adequate hosting), you can run a site for about $30 a year... i'm sure it's been done before... |

The reason I pointed that out is due to the fact a few of my friends got warnings, extra charges or shut down on their Shaw cable accounts.
I'm on Telus and never had any issues to date with bandwidth but I wanted to make sure I don't get whacked for extra $$$ for nothing. I don't have a problem letting people use my server for storage and ftp, but I didn't think I would go as far as setting up a website for it. I might look into having a link between the F&K server and my ftp server though. |
