I dunno, I dance pretty similar to house as I do to breaks. It's all 4/4 beats so it's not to difficult just to bump your body up and down to the beat and throw arms and legs at intervals the music allows.
DnB same thing, just do it in half time. Everybody has their own style. And that's the important thing, not that you know how to pop n lock or break or whatever... that you have your own style that you ascribe to. You can always just go nuts and flail. While it can look stupid it's damn fun. One of my favourite club/rave games is "Dance like the person in front of you", and that's probably where I learned most how to dance. hmm i disagree slightly... yes it can all be interpreted into 4x4 beat. but if your hearing a breakbeat as a 4x4 beat, then its defeating the purpose of the break. in breaks and dnb, you have to utilize the breakpoint. leave the four on the floor shit to the house stages. |

all kidding aside. (ref. to the "start djin" comment)
I'm not a great dancer by any means, but I always bring confidence to the dance floor...or maybe its liquid courage? either way,I'm sure there are alot of different approaches so I'll share mine. like was mentioned earlier. mimicing other people's movements on the floor is probably the best. Also, if you see an impressive dancer, catch them on the downtime and compliment them- with any luck they'll be wicked folks who will teach you a pointer if you ask nicely! whenever your listening to music at home... dance. its excellent cardio, and kicks ass. If your neighbors tell you to "TURN DOWN THAT RACKET"... simply shout back "FUCK YOU I'M DANCING. I LOVE IT AND WILL NOT STOP!" once you have a bit more of a grip on things. here are the keys to positive thinking on the dance floor. 1) DO NOT HESITATE. 2) IF IT FEELS GOOD, DO IT. 3) SMILE. 4) KEEP IT FUN. don't be paranoid of what your doing, enjoy yourself out there and you'll send off positive vibes regardless of your technical skill. 5) DON'T SPILL YOUR DRINK ON ME. you'll do alright kid, you're on a mission from god. |

the game i like to play more than 'dance like the person infront of you' is 'see who can throw the most light sticks over the fence in 10 minutes'
its a great drinking game ^_^ and it pisses the trance kids off. win win. as for dangamouses dubstep comment... hell yea. the folded arms dance pwns. reminds me of this comic i saw, but i cant fuckin find it now. |

It's not that it can all be interpreted into a 4/4 beat, it's that it ALL IS A 4/4 BEAT. Just because the percussion varies, it doesn't change the time signature. And sure, variation in percussion allows you to dance a bit differently, be a little more innovative with your moves. But listen to the music and count to four (or 8, or 16), it works every time. |
