Listen / Download Here: Slipstream - Music - Darvin Knorr aka Nokturnal - Area709

Description:

If ever I was given the chance to come up with the music for a sci-fi movie, this is pretty close to what I would come up with I think. These tracks are slick, techy, trippy and always slipping into the funk at just the right moment. PHAT basslines..sooo PHAT.

2. Domingo Brothers and Malicious Mike - Hydro (Domingo's 1997 Vision Mix)
3. Reflex One - Breaks In Ur Face

6. Malicious Mike - Deep Space Fantasy
7. Uberzone - Bounce (Rennie Pilgrim & B.L.I.M. Secret Mix)

15. Cirrus - Unbreakable

Reviews:

I am listening to the Slipstream mix, you guys should check it out. If you like breaks you will love it! - Tyson Cormack

I personally thought this was one of the better break beat mixes I have heard come from a Calgary dj. Darvin and I have extremely similiar tastes in breaks and this cd is a fixture in my cd player, and has been for some time now. - Ryan Hauser

I remember the first time I listened to it, it filled a void in my life. If you crave deep, dark breaks, check it out. - Lucious

I love this album!! (especially track #10..) I think it will always be my favorite. -Talia

Wicked! Perfect working in front of the computer beats, thanks! - anonymous

Ok- I've never heard anything like this. Which means I don't get out enough or Toronto is really missing out, cuz this is a refreshing 'set' of sounds. I'm not going say anymore, cuz you've just got to listen to understand. My only question to Nokturnal? When are you coming to T.O. for a spin? - CosmiK Cat

Yet again Mr. Knorr, your talent is ineffable. This mix has the power to fill a dancefloor, a depth that deserves close inspection (again, dark room + milkdrop) and a progression that keeps the mind and the feet fully occupied. Nice one mate. - anonymous

Reviews:

Hey Darvin! I am working. Yup. It is 6am, and I am working. In fact, I have been working since 6am yesterday morning. I am lilting on the edge of delerium, insanity and enlightenment. Its a love triangle. Anyway...I threw all your CDs into my cd changer and gave them all a listen while typing away. "Something to hold on to" has certainly grown on me. Wicked mix. Thanks man. - Dwayne

Still probably my favorite mix from Darvin. It was the first time I'd ever been exposed to such an effective crossing of genres, from psytrance to progressive to breaks; which is often extremely hard to do successfully. The mixing is very creative and super tight and the flow of tracks and track selection is very mature. I'd say there's no question this mix has had a big impact on my musical tendencies to date. - Wes Straub

Ebbflow

Released: Jun 1, 2003
Genre: Progressive - House
Length: 1:19:52

Listen / Download Here: Ebbflow - Music - Darvin Knorr aka Nokturnal - Area709

Description:

One of my strongest motivations for making these compilations is the fact that unless I am playing these tracks at home myself, I might not get to hear them very often! So this mix was exactly that, a way for me to hear some of my favorites at the time it was made, just for me. It was also a birthday project for the wonderful Ms. Tracy Buddy. There was no effort made to make this mix have an overall feel or progression, my only thought was super smooth transitions and memorably wonderous beats. This mix while mostly progressive house also has a few stunning progressive breaks tracks thrown in as well.

Tracklist:

1. Sasha - Boileroom
2. Holden & Thompson - Nothing (93 returning mix)
3. Momu - Sunsicle (Rock Candy mix)
4. Smight - Road To Kandahar
5. Jimmy Van M - Sanctuary (Cube remix)
6. Late Night Sneaky - Purr Project (Furr mix)
7. Sattva - Echo of Silence (Way Out West remix)
8. Digby & Oiver - Sunshower
9. Dave London & Filthy Rich - Twisted (breaks mix)
10. Grayarea - Yellowminyst
11. Momu - Donner Pass
12. Pole Folder - Waxx

Hey Darvin, that was awesome! I woke up this morning and played it, it became the perfect way to start my morning! A huge smile is on my face now! And now I'm ready to get on with my day. Mmmm Juicy... (maybe I'll replace this with my moring cup of O-J!). - Spotlight

Soooo.... goooood.... *twitch*. - Hunter

Excellent Mix. I have listened numerous times now, and each time found something new. Thanks again Darvin - Dig It

.....then I heard this sound.... and it came to be my utopia....I just wanted to let you know that I just finished "The Way to Happiness". To be brutally honest with you, this is the first set I've ever listened to fully, in one sitting...ever.. it felt so damn good. Alot of the tunes created visual illustrations in my mind.. ranging from colors to clouds to the sea.. There was one tune in particular where I almost shed a tear, but not of sadness. -Danielle

...just sitting here at work listening to "The Way to Happiness", I have to tell you I love this CD! I have frequented this journey many times. - Ada Sokolowski

When I am dancing in my room in the mornings, it makes me feel like dancing in the sand with the warm sun rays dancing over my body. Having the blissful atompheric beats carry my body into a place where the hula hoops circle my mind, over my body around the universe and back to here heaven exsists! I have found and fell in love with The Way To Happiness. Thank you! - Laurie

Wow the title actually very true to how I felt listening to this mix. At the last track of the mix I had a moment of pure happiness reflecting on my life journey so far and how improbable it is that I end up where I am. Your mix was instrumental in bringing that feeling within me. Thank you. - anonymous

Description:

Certain people make us feel a certain way when we are in their presence. I can think of very specific moments I have shared with some very special people that have made me feel humbled to have them in my life. The way someone moves, the playfulness in their voice, the radiance in their eyes... these simple things and so many more make me dizzy... and I fall silent. And out of my silence comes music. Who was my muse for this recording? I am sure she knows. ;)

Reviews:

Hi there. I haven't heard a progressive breaks mix this good in a VERY long time. You have serious talent that by the sounds of things, keeps improving. - J.S.

Hello!! Just been enjoying MUSE...thanks for posting it on the Shambhala page. I like the depth and rhythm of the tracks you selected for muse... I can feel... the journey... can feel myself eyes closed morning light just starting to break open the night, bare feet connecting beat to earth somewhere in the forest... dance is always a journey. Nice fluid transitions from track to track... seamless... So yeah let me know how I can get a hold of some of your CDs. Cause I'm loving it. - Angela

Dude...this is outstanding. Big up ya self!!! - Rich Stern

The mix is stunning. - Jason L.

Bleed your server dry. This is really really good shit! Lots of breaks and deepness feed my soul. Kill. You need to get this stuff A&R'd and publish. - Rajulio Schwartz

GOOD SHIT MY MAN!! - Jason

This is one super sexy mix. Thanks to you, I have opened up my eyes to breaks and I?m realizing how stunning they can be. I love the progression from the light, dreamy tracks to the deeper, dirtier ones. This mix is very seductive, it inspires me to close my eyes and dream sexy thoughts. - Irena

After arriving home from a late night out, I logged on, thinking it would be for a short time but have been instead finding myself listening to your mixes until 5 A.M. and I have work tomorrow!!! The sad part is, I was more intrigued by listening to your tunes than being with my friends... ahaha. Anyways, I'm listening to "Muse" right now...you've managed to incorporate so much substance and emotion...I'm hooked. Thank you so much for sharing and rekindling that spirit in electronic music that seems, too often, to cease to exist. I feel revived and enlightened at 5 A.M. if that is humanly possible? - Danielle

I know I already made a comment about this mix....but 3 years later this mix still kicks my ass. One of the tightest, sickest mixes between two tracks happens right here....Word Unspoken (Luke Chable mix) into Alive (Bleek mix)....incredible. not to mention they are two of my all time favorite prog breaks tracks. loooooove it! :) - Ben Rama

One of the best mixes I have ever heard. Good Work - DShock

Length: 1:19:56

Listen / Download Here: lllucid - Music - Darvin Knorr aka Nokturnal - Area709

Description:

Exactly as my girl Irena ordered, each track and transition approved by her, this mix is deep, dark, dirty and very progressive. We had a VERY hard to compiling this one; making a cd with another person did make the process a long one but it was also something we both really enjoyed. This mix was also the nucleus of the set Norris and I played at Motion Notion this year. This is our attempt at staying true to the progy house/progy psy sound for a solid 80 min. Enjoy!

Tracklist:

1. Echotek - Away
2. Sharon and Robert - Desire
3. Phony Orphants - Chicago Collins
4. Nyquist - Flatline
5. Dousk - Estrange
6. Bitmonx vs Fabio - Deep Sense
7. Freq - Short Life Again
8. Beat Bizarre - 2 Lame 2 Blame
9. Luna Spice - Melodeep (into mix)
10. Liguid Soul - Why
11. Mondayz Millionares - Balaindo
12. Gaudium - Fading Faith
13. Chakra - Opacity
14. Ticon - Six Years After

Reviews:

Well, what can I say? Another rock-fucking-solid mix! Nice work! - Solomoon

Props for a Canadian (Calgary at that) Psy DJ... BTW, your guys set at Motion Notion this year was SAVAGE!!... Excellent opening set for John 00 Fleming... Thumbsup! - J:Digital

Darvin that is a fucking gorgeous mix!!! Thanks!!! - Murray

EXCELLENT MUSIC AND MIXING!!! - Dj Tod

Seriously dude that mix is fucking ILL! Can not wait to hear more! - Doubt

This mix is pretty sick. I love the deep, pumping, twisted beats. I am around 18 minutes into the mix, and loving it so far. 2:45 mins in now, still ridiculous, deep and driving, my favorite genre! Pretty seamless mixing. If I could wrangle a lossless copy from you somehow, you would be my God, keep up the awesome work! - Sorenj 07

I love this sound : deep emotional ever-building and at times driving prog...love the work you put in the layout of the mixes..the artwork I mean. Good stuff. - Salva

Ok Ive gotten thru this mix and hell yeah!!!! GOOD SHIT!!! I really like your mixing and track selection, keep it up pleez - Ratboy

I just have to say that your music, sir, is amazing. I have been listening to your Illucid mix for months, definitely have feedback that I promised myself I would give to you! Just wanted to say, thank you! For the music, and from what I see on your profile, for being an awesome human being. :)Humbly - RT

This is my first listen to psy... I'm a complete newbie to the electronica scene. Came across this mix looking for psy, curious to hear what it was, just liked the name... psytrance... well, this mix started out slow, I thought, well, this is ok I guess... then it hit me. I started to lose focus. Fucking amazing. Brilliant. I think I've found my niche. - anonymous

This was a great intense experience all the way through - the easy paced tracks worked great and I waited for it to get a bit faster but was thankful when it didn't, I know - but it would have ruined the whole easy beated set, liked it a lot, just half way through it again today, very nice sound and perfect handling, imo. Thanks for a great piece of music. Loved it a lot. Cheers - Dereklangold

All These Things

Released: Nov 1, 2006
Genre: Progressive - Breaks
Length: 1:19:51

Listen / Download Here: All These Things - Music - Darvin Knorr aka Nokturnal - Area709

Description:

This mix has been in the works ever since I completed my last progressive breaks mix Muse. I realise that anyone who is big into these types of breaks may already be familiar with most or all of these tracks, but they are my favorite choice tunes that I have wanted to link together for quite awhile now. I very rarely hear these types of breaks played out, so I hope they find a few others out there who will be swept away by them as much as I am. As well, the title of this mix is a bit of a nod to LP and Shiloh for the last track on this compilation which I think is a really brilliant gem, awesome work lads!!

Track List:

1. Jordan Daniel - Plastic Revolution
2. Aural Seduction - Dark Clouds Over Oslo (Rayan Papa Rmx)
3. Orchid - Almost Grey
4. Siberian Son - Venus
5. Noel Sanger - Carry On
6. Ozur & Rouzbeh - Eternity
7. Mortar & Pestle - Clause 5.1
8. Brad Copeland - Hide
9. Blake Jarrel & Starkid (Momus with Cream Rmx) - Apricot
10. Chable & Fernandez - Before You Break On Me
11. Phil K & Habersham - Cloudbrake
12. LP & Shiloh - All those Things

Reviews:

OMG, awesome mix. Slapped it into my ipod today and it got me through my workout lickity split. Very smooth blending and flawless beatmatching. I haven't been listening to a lot of prog breaks sets lately, so that LP/Shiloh track is still a welcome addition to any mix. Excellent work - Maclintok

Breaks really aren't my forte, but I was pleasantly surprised. Great sense of atmosphere, very warm and euphoric; evoking to the senses. It has a comfortable underwater feel, with fizzy bubbles tickling up your legs. It's exactly what I needed, some sensitive tunes. Thank you. f*** Cafe del Mar. I've got Nokturnal! - Deedee

Super tight man! It sounds amazing, this is the crossover I have been wanting for a while. Prog breaks meets intelligent trancy. Perfect. Love it! Keep it up brotha! - Spirit

Excellent music and perfect mixing! Very real, positive and progressive trip! Something specifically and extra! - Dj Tod

Very lush, melodic start... love this sound... the build-up towards darker sounds is very well executed. Lovely work honest. Keep it up. Will keep this one in my archive for sure. - Salva

Hiya Darvin, nice one!! I like it a lot whenever I see that you have posted up a new mix, I always know it is gonna be a good one... keep up the great work! - Bindi

Great work! It was not what I was expecting... much more trancey... I like the latter half especially. Overall it had a very polished sound to it. The Shiloh track is getting a bit overplayed by every proggy breaks DJ I have listened too, but still a great way to climax a set - Clearvision

Shiloh - All those Things - I had never heard this before but I have fallen in love with it, thanks! - Sanchez

Sonance

Released: Jan 10, 2007
Genre: Progressive - House
Length: 1:18:38

Listen / Download Here: Sonance - Music - Darvin Knorr aka Nokturnal - Area709

Description:

This mix was temporarily down, but for a very great reason... it was picked up as an exclusive mix for the ECLECTIC SELECTIONS show put on by Progressive House.com and hosted on Dance Radio.gr.

I compiled and mixed this recording as a progressive demo for my duo project, Sons of Aurora. My partner Norris compiled and mixed a companion recording called Zahir which is a simply stunning psydub journey. Both of these mixes can be found here on Area 709 in the Sons of Aurora section. The demo package did it's job, and we are booked solid for the whole summer, finishing off at the Symbiosis Gathering in Norhtern California in September 2007.

This mix was an exploration of some new sounds for me, as the minimal sounds have gotten under my skin. I have also been really enjoying the electro infused tracks which seem to have taken the world of electronica by storm, so to travel from one to the other seemed like a great formula and this mix is the result. This mix has a taste of minimal, progressive house, electro house, and progressive psytrance... Enjoy!

Tracklist:

1. Trentemoller – Nightwalker
2. 2. Filur – Kiwi Mind Pilot (Kasey Taylor Remix)
3. Parrket – Skeletonised
4. True To Nature – Breeze
5. Snake Sedrick & Emze Hack – The Beginning
6. Nyquist – Dawn Driver
7. FREq & B Harmless – Even & Odd (Antix Remix)
8. Flowjob – Cloud Politics
9. Parrket – Science In My Mind
10. Nyquist – Oliver Twist
11. Vibrasphere – Floating Free (Dub Mix)
12. Elke Klein – Deep Depths

Reviews:

Awesome! I love it!!!! Can I see the track list please? There's some amazing songs on this... love & light from Vancouver. - Jessica

Listening now... awesome. - Zach

This has to be hands down the best progressive house/trance mix I've ever heard. You guys rule! Please come east sometime, Halifax could use a taste of the sublime progressive you guys lay down. Keep it up and congrats on getting it picked up by Progressivehouse.com. Peace. - Ben

Reviews:

You're awesome! - Stargirl

Holy shit Darvin! I love it! The mix going into and out of the track were spot on, and the track selection is amazing! It was so strange to hear my track fade in and at a slower tempo...but it was breathtaking! I'm not even sure how I can really articulate what I'm feeling right now. You see, not only has my first track ever landed on my favorite DJ's mix, but alongside my favorite track of the year (no hyperbole in either case I assure you), the Motion remix of Interstellar Overdrive. Even before listening to the superb mixing, I was blown away to see that track on the listing. And I have to say Darvin, that I'm completely honored that you would not only choose my first track for your wonderful mix, but that you would give me a heads up in the track details. Seeing what you wrote about the track was very surreal, and I'm deeply touched. It was you after all, that was kind enough to have me to your house for a special DJ set and hooked me up with all those cds. Which incidentally have set my musical compass as I know it. Slipstream and Solace were my two first and favorite breaks mixes and to this day are in the household rotation. Keep the mixing coming, and I'll keep the breaks coming. - Ben Rama

Just wanted to drop you a quick line to let you know that I've finally tuned into one of your mix sets (have been meaning to for ages), I currently have Kultura 2007 playing and I really dig it man! Nice, deep & cruisy, very 'progressive' in nature. I really dig it. - Adam

Ok, I’m sorry, but this mix is FUCKING GREAT! It sounds even better than I remembered it. I’ve been listening to it all day, and it’s a real prize babe. - Reeny Vittles

WICKED!!!!! - Tammy

Dream in a dream this mix is mind blowing, wicked atmospheric back ground with breaks its fuckin awesome mate, it's blow my socks of. Wish u were playin in UK. - anonymous

This mix you have posted from Kultura! F-ing amazing! I absolutely love it! I sure wish we could have made it to the party. - Justin Miller

Beautiful as always Darvin. - Laura

Smooooooth breaks man! I never actually hear any prog-breaks but this stuff is pretty hypnotizing. - Alexander (Basilisk)

Symbios

Released: Oct 17, 2007
Genre: Psygressive
Length: 0:56:42

Listen / Download Here: Symbios - Music - Darvin Knorr aka Nokturnal - Area709

Description:

My summer 2007 schedule was crazy hectic, filled with gigs and gatherings all over Western North America. The event which was the finale was the Symbiosis Gathering in California in September, and this mix reflects a portion of the Sons of Aurora set I played with my partner Norris. The gathering was one of the highlights of my summer and these particular tracks are for me a portal back to that amazing weekend up in the mountains East of San Francisco. The fact that they are all off of the same three labels goes to show that I am a big fan of what Flow, Blue Tunes and Iboga records are up to these days.

This mix is a short one due to the one hour time allowance as it will was featured on Wes Straub's new online radio show 709 Sessions which can be found at: tribal mixes radio :: main (index) page .

Track List:

1. Suncontrolspecies (Iboga Records) - Spines
2. Yotopia (Flow Records) - Pepper Ball
3. Antix & Embark (Flow Records) - Hammers And Tongs
4. Perfect Stranger & Ace Ventura (Atmos Mix) (Iboga Records) - Perfect Ace
5. Lish (Blue Tunes) - Stereo Talk
6. Antix (Iboga Records) - Forward
7. Suncontrolspecies (Iboga Records) - The Big Mistake of 08
8. Symphonix (Blue Tunes) - Spaceballs
9. Perfect Stranger (Flowjob Remix) (Iboga Records) - Bliss

Comments:

Awesome mix really lovin' it missed the festivities of Symbiosis but I can imagine how awesome it must have been to play in presence of Ralph Metzer. - xolvexs

Excellent mix. Left me wanting more. - lakitss
