Tracks that made you fall in love with electronica

My FIRST one ever! Saw it on MTV in 1993 and instantly wanted more of this music we call 'electronica'. :D

And this one reinforced the fact for good that I liked this kind of music:

At the time I thought it was the coolest track ever! (still is sorta...)

And last one - this one is in my personal top 10 of all time. It's the track that got me into DJing:

Wow memories! This video is so sexy too.

Another victim of the Hackers Soundtrack wave of techno lovers.

For me, it started with my parents playing Herbie Hancock's Future Shock album ad nauseum.

But it was around 1995/96 that I really started discovering what is traditionally called "techno", and it all comes down to two soundtracks:
Hackers:
- Orbital
- Underworld
- The Prodigy
- Kruder & Dorfmeister
- Leftfield
- Carl Cox
- Stereo MC's
Mortal Kombat:
- The Immortals (admit it, you thought that song was fun when you first heard it)
- Traci Lords (okay, technically it's Ben Watkins of Juno Reactor/KLF doing an instrumental of the song he did with Traci Lords, but she gets the bill)
- Orbital (also on this soundtrack)
- KMFDM (THA REVALATIONNNNN!)
- Utah Saints

Then in spring '97 I went to London and picked up a mixtape with a bunch of late acid trance/early NuNRG on it and my musical life was pretty much changed forever. Then NuNRG started to suck, then it became UKHH, and then I started becoming a big house fan. Then I discovered Z-Trip and now my favourite genre is "good music" (my second fav is "awful music").

Oh yeah, my music world was also completely revolutionized when I first saw Thomas Bangalter's music late night on MuchMusic.

I'm not too sure which of these I saw first. I think it was Da Funk but my first memory of MSBWY is of me seeing the video and saying "Holy shit! I've seen this video before! Like, a year ago!" which may or may not have been hallucinated.

underworld's beaucoup fish i think was the clincher. i had heard stuff before that (daft punk's da funk namely), but in 98 or 99 when that came out, that was the definitive moment.

Prodigy was intensely better when they relied on quality beats instead of Hallowe'en makeup.

Man my list was going to start the same!

My dad was going through a mid life @ the time and listening to this kind of music made him feel flashy and young. I remember watching him play the music and turn it down like a dj would cut in and out of a track. I really think this is the reason I got into dance music.

YouTube - Capital Sound - Higher Love (video clip)

Capital Sound was huge for me.

YouTube - Another Night • M.C.Sar & The Real McCoy

I used to listen to this on the way to little league practise w/ my sister. She would sing the female vocals and I would sing the males.

We would do the same with this jam too.....

YouTube - LL Cool J - Doin' It

Is that weird?

YouTube - KLF - 3 a.m. Eternal (Stadium House)

KLF!

YouTube - SATERDAY NIGHT WIGFIELD

Fuck now that I think about it my dad and sister listened to some pretty fem shit.

Anyways those kind of tunes got me into electronica but once I started going to raves the music changed.
