can i start recording mixes as soon as i get an audio interface?

..or do i need to get software to record.. i'm planning to get an m-audio fast track pro audio interface. I have stanton m.304 mixer and my macBook (the white covered, 2.4Ghz - to specify).. if so, once i hook it all up together, is there any adjustments i need to make to my mac?.. ~ if i need software to record, what software?

You can also use garage band, which unless something has changed since I bought my mac, should be already installed.
