Myagi album previews start today on myspace

So I've uploaded the first track off my album to MySpace.com - Myagi // Sole Claw - airport lounges everywhere, CA - Electronica / Club / Other - www.myspace.com/myagisoleclaw

Interesting thing I'm trying out here - since the full release is due to drop at beatport in a few weeks time - followed shortly thereafter by itunes, djddownload, physical cd etc), I figured I would post the entire album, one track a day, on my myspace - check back often and tell your friends, enemies, loved ones, and pets that can type. As the player fills, old ones will be cycled out, so if you hear something you like, go buy the cd ;)

Album opener - "How to test" features vox from the amazingly talented Danial from the Root Sellers. It's a bit of a breaks meets rock meets hip hop number, and has been a great set opener for me for the last while. Hope you dig!!!!

The album release will be followed soon by remixes of How To Test by Nick Thayer and Cut La Roc, both of which are really freaking sweet. Very pleased!

heres the album review from DJ mag btw:

Howlin’

Breaks producer goes for the jugular.

Canadian producer Myagi, or Andrew Mavor to his mum, has made his name in international breakbeat with releases on Title Fight, Westway and more. But here he broadens his remit for the album format, releasing on Freddy Fresh’s label a body of work so complete it could be a concept. Progressive 4/4 sonics like ‘Payback’, ‘Shapeshifter Part 2’ and the Underworld-like ‘In Between’ are dovetailed by lovely downtempo pieces like ‘I Don’t Want This To End’, the Peter Gabriel-esque ‘Stuck In A Box’ and chill anthem ‘Staring At The Sun’ that’d sit nicely on Ibiza’s sunset strip. Forget Tiësto’s sunrise quest and get yer teeth stuck into this uplifting electronic masterpiece. Kim O’Connor

Todays track is up!

Track 2 on the album - "Shapeshifter pt 1" is a spaced out big beat number - one of the first tracks I wrote for this project, it was meant to have a bit of a classic breaks meets live drumming feel, with big bass, a simple chord progression and the kind of vibe youd expect if the who wrote edm - really happy with how it turned out, simple but big.

Rebel Sketchy has done a killer remix of this that will be out soon and take the track into rolling bassline funky breaks territory!

Todays track - "Heads N Tails" - is a deep one - lots of dub and hip hop influences - serious bass and a big soulful groove...from the fills to the keys to the spaced out breakdown, its a chunky one and is pretty mood inducing.

Again, this was one of the earlier tracks written for the album, and a good example of the direction my downtempo material is going - I'm really proud of this.

I didn't know if I'd be able to do it, but I just managed to upload todays track.

I'm currently in Auckland, New Zealand on a layover and have had a bit of a chance to respond to messages for the first time in a few days - thanks to everyone for all the kind words on the tracks - I'm really looking forward to the finished product making it out there in a couple weeks time!

Todays tune - "In Between" is a bit of a special one for me as its the first time in YEARS where I've done vocals on a tune myself, and it was a bit of a soul search to figure out if I even wanted to attempt it - the results worked well enough that it will certainly happen again, though I don't see any "Sonique" style performances in my repertoire....it IS probably the first time where I've heard my voice recorded and not hated it. Thank god for distortion and editing!

The track itself is a big, funky, psychedelicy, proggy, housey behemoth - its been the standout track of my sets for the last while and was one of the later tracks to be finished up for the album, and was written around the time I started really feeling inspired to make peak time music again.

As I'm sure you've noticed from the other tracks on the album, the overall feel is certainly not traditional in it's vibe....or maybe it's VERY traditional, as variety and scope of style was something that I really loved about classic dance music albums. I'm not sure.

One of the mandates I had when I was thinking about writing an album was to make something that had flow and was not simply a collection of pre-published singles, or was not simply a tacked together collection of similar vibes and styles....this tune is kind of the embodiment of that ethos, of trying to reconcile multiple styles into a cohesive whole.

Theres monster bass, a full orchestra, distorted looped vocals, and loads of synth editing and programming that probably has more in common with psychedelic styles of trance and downbeat than anything else I've done in the past.

Hope you like!

Had to take a couple days off from putting up tracks as I was lacking net access - thanks to everyone who came out to Laundry in Sydney on friday - great times!

The track for today is track 5 off the album - Payback. Its a big techy roller of a tune - probably the darkest one on the album, just rock n roll energy meets massive drums and a huge bassline - not sure what else to say - its a simple but effective track, some really fun synth lines that evolve throughout the tune to work the energy level up to a frenzy.

Hope you dig!

Just put todays track up - "Stuck In A Box" ft Brittlestar.

This one has been called "peter gabriel-esque" by dj mag, which is no bad thing! The first of what will surely be a few collaborations between myself and long time friend Stuart Reynolds, "Stuck In A Box" is firmly in radio friendly chill out territory, a very melodic, "optimistic but angst-ridden" ballad of a track that is an album highlight for sure.

Big rocky bassline, hard hitting drums and hypnotic synth lines form the backbone of this one, one of the earlier ones written for the album and my set closer for the last 10 months or so.

It's a super simple tune that for some reason always works for me, on any floor - a nice builder that peaks out in a pretty emotive plateau of distorted noise. I think the fact that it's a bit of a hybrid is what makes it work - its got the driving beat of a good house track and the sounds and synths of modern breaks and electro. Hope you like it!

Just a reminder - album release on beatport is Tues Sept 23rd! Super stoked on my end!

Groovy chilled out house, deep and melodic.......DJ Mag picked this as their mint track, destined for the ibiza strip. Couldn't really be much happier with the pick, as this is one of the standouts from the album from my point of view.....very emotive, groovy bits with a serious resonant bassline that grows throughout the track and provides the basis for the rest of the piece's evolution. Pretty. Very happy with it. :)

One of the big dancefloor tracks off the album, 777 garnered immediate support from Pete Tong (getting a #2 on his bedroom bedlam spot), Scumfrog et al and has been smashing floors for those who have been lucky enough to have a copy for these past few months.

A big builder with very melodic elements and a proggy groove, '777' is a deep, hard hitting house track with a monster low slung bass groove and 'classic' feeling rave synths and pads....the main drop hits like a ton of bricks - enjoy!

Hello all! Todays track is up, and its the final album track, the appropriately titled "I Don't Want This To End."

Again, this tune is sort of in "groove armada" territory - chilled out hip-hoppy trippy afternoon beats that don't skimp on the bass.

Hope you dig it!

Quick note about album release - there have been some issues with the release dates as I'm sure people have noticed - suffice to say these are being corrected and the album is live at ITUNES now, and will be avail at juno, beatport etc., shortly!
