a question for the aficionados

I was just wondering if there is a blanket term for dance music that ranges from 115-150 bpm (eg. funk, disco, breaks, house, techno, dubstep) ??? anyone?

i meant like a more selective term... because dance music also contains genres that exceed 150bpm. I wasn't sure if there was a term for this or not, just curious!

nah, certain elements just sounds like that.

its almost universally at 140bpm.

I know when the first few times I heard dubstep I was like "what in the fuck is this zombie shit?...too slow" heh.

But then I got really, really, like man I mean REALLLLLY into it and I find bouncing double time to dubstep to be THE most fun and upbeat thing ever.

when you watch really avid listeners and dancers of dubstep you'll see what I mean...its a fast tempo for sure.

Have not been this excited about a genre/subculture since DNB hit me up side the head back in the good ole '99

70 bpm = 140 bpm functionally.

arguing about what bpm a genre is supposed to be is one of the (many) things that ended up killing a lot of the electronic scene.

^ What he said.

I think the one definition I can get behind is "mid-tempo" because the OP seems hung up on tempo for some reason.

I just call it all EDM, and I have no qualms about mixing my 160bpm rave techno with my 96bpm 90's hip-hop.

^ ya i liked the mid-tempo classification. i think that's what i was after. It's not really important to me what genre is what or what tempo things are supposed to be, I wanted to know the term to help easily describe a broader range of music that is similar. but yeah i usually just say EDM as well.

You must not have noticed when it got eaten up by the Hip-Hop and Rock scenes about half a decade or so ago.

I'd like to blame Busy P but really it's all James Murphy's fault.

^haha yes fair enough. but there's still so much great stuff coming out that it makes up for the mountains of bad edm and the bastard incarnations of it in pop music, imo.

Don't get me wrong, there's still good stuff coming out. It's just been fused with those styles ever since the mashup craze got so popular.

Electroclash was a glorious thing before we agreed to call it electroclash.
