Skipping Tables
Whenever i repeatedly cue a record. I lose my cue spot. I've heard that this is because my talbes are brand new. Also Scrathing on em is impossible becasue the needles skip. Is this common with tables righ tout of the box???

it's not on just one record. but i'll give it another week. i'll just rip my hair out until then :P
also another question. when i set up my needles with the white thing that came with the deck shoud the needle be completely flush with the edge of it or hang over a mm or 2?? |

try this...
Find a 1 sided record. ie has music on one side and is blank on the other put the needle on the one sided record and use the anti-skip to balance the arm in one spot.. It will move up on down the record if unbalanced. Once you have got the arm rotating in a steady spot, you just got your tables calibrated! |

^sweet, i've never heard of that technique before...
but yeah, i've had similar problems with decks 'straight outta the box' before. it's infuriating, but it doesn't seem to take that long to break them in. not sure what causes this, but i've definitely noticed it on several occasions. |

sounds like all you have to do is balance your needles. has nothing to do with how new or old your decks are ... another thing is allso making sure your cartridges are straight and secured proper on the headshells and set up the way they should be as instructions follow... i fine also you have to wear in the needles abit by normal play ....for me that is before i start cuttn it up.... :smoke1: and off course what precise said above about calibrating....

i heard that the needle is supposed to move to the inside of the record and stay there on the blank side of a one sided record and that was how u're supposed to calibrate it. but i'll take u're word for it ryan. so am i supposed to be able to drop the needle anywhere on the blank side and it stays put????
kev, i have the needles set up so that they are completely flush to the white tool for setting up needles. or is it supposed to go over by a couple mm's???? |

nice lauren!!
thanks ryan. now if no matter what i can't get the needle to stay put if i put in a certain spot on the blank side??? cuz i can get it to slide to the middle of the record and stay there or different areas of the record but i can't get it to go down on a certain area and stay there. it always moves. what does that mean??? sorry for all the questions, just wanna get shit set up perfect ya know. |

Well here's a sure fire method of mine to check if your needles are indeed bunk, cause this has nothing to do with your decks being new or not.
Take off the counter weights, adjust the height of the tone arm to 6 and lock the wheel, set anti skating to 3. If they skip for about 7 hours later on this setting, you got bunk needles. This will shorten the half life of your needles to about 50%, but if you are going to be doing any turntablism I highly suggest it, your needles will start to sound like shit after about 300 hours or so but you can get lazy and apply quite alot of pressure on the platter and it won't skip so its a healthy trade off IMHO.
