Do you remeber the VERY first mixtape you ever had?
I can remember mine because i was so stoked on the fact that you could compile your favorite songs onto a tape and listen to it from start to finish without getting bored =p....
i think i had mine in grade 4 or 5... it was my sisters old mixtape she let me borrow (which i ended up making a copy for myself) . so this was 10 years ago.... i remember it starting off with song songs off bon jovis keep the faith album... or was it crossroads (that greatest hits compilation).... there was keep the faith, bed of roses, blaze of glory, living on prayer.... then the other side had aerosmith - crazy and living on the edge.... then had ugly kid joe - hate everythint about you... hahaha fuck i think that was my favorite song on that tape... then it finished off with some air supply and bryan adams... hehe anyone else remember that first mixtape? or do you even give a shit? =p |

Man... I think I was about 6 or 7 and I got this ghetto blaster with a mic in it so I taped songs off the radio like Def Leppard 'Pour Some Sugar On Me', Motley Crue 'Dr. Feelgood'... mostly 80's hair metal and rock stuff.
I loved that stupid mic so in between every 3 or 4 ongs I'd tape myself in there acting like a radio DJ. It was pretty funny though. Thank God my first concert was in better taste than my first mix tape. I saw Tool at the Plaza.... now that was a show! |

i made mixtapes off the radio since i was a really little kid...
one of the first ones i can remember had Tears For Fears "Shout", and that 'White Horse' tune that's now made a comeback in the electroklash scene, can't remember who it's by.... also some duran duran, and probably huey lewis..heh the first actual dj-mixed mixtapes i had though were tapes of DJ Noah of Homebass on CiTR, back when he first started the show around 90-91. That was my first exposure to breakbeat techno & jungle, the only club music i'd known up until then was house & industrial. |

Making a mixtape is a lot art. Back in the day when you had to rip tracks off the radio. Now that was elite. Those were the best tapes because they had all the best songs.
My tapes were in high demand. Ace Of Bace, Kriss Kross!!! Heh. Making a mix tape took lots of planning, sweat and percission. You had to time it that there were no gaps between tracks. Also you had to make sure that each side was filled and a song wasnt cut off. Ahhh...good times.... |
