Anyone can beatmatch. That's true, but that doesn't mean they can mix. Last edited by nerd; Feb 11, 03 at 06:40 PM. |

(^) Also a good point but I'd have to disagree on one part of that. A DJ's crowd interaction is just as important as any other aspect of there set. What would Kiss have been without painted faces and crazy hair, or DJ Swamp with out fire breathing and what not. Being a performer is a key component of being a good DJ.

Honestly ...... if you gave a monkey headphones for any more than a week it would be beat matching. A four year old could do it. No offence or nothin I just think that basic decent beat matching shouldn't even be mentioned because if somebody can't do it they either haven't been spinning more than a couple months or they have absolutly no musical inclination at all. I think it is the least important thing about DJ'ing because it is the bare minimum. If you can't match beats what are you doing up there?

(^) All very true. What I was saying is that in some cases people are sooooo uneducated about DJ'ing and what they are hearing that it doesn;t matter wether or not you can beatmatch or mix. However if you are playing for an older more educated crowd at a decent club night you better know your shit. I have a friend with a residency at a Club ____________ and he will just stop a record drop another track and the crowd will go nuts. It just all depends on who your audience is.

playing out has to do with confidence. and over confident beginner will think he can play out but make an ass of himself. a perfectionist will practise and practise till they are perfect before they play out. its is a way of weeding out the respectable and talented artists and those that are after the attention. wherever you go there will be those people who want the fame and glory as fast as they can get it with the minimal amount of energy put into achieving this goal.
sometimes it can be pretty sad. bren |

This is exactly what I'm saying. Being able to just drop tracks and make them sound dope or sick turntablism are taking it to the next level. Putting on a good show is what's important. Beat matching is just necessary for a smooth set.
