What shit is Madonna gonna stir up with her new single/video?
First single called Amecian Life from her new album due out this summer
She’s taking on the Bush Administration’s war on Iraq ----- You’ve got to admire Madonna. Even as she enters her mid-40s and concerns herself with the daily grind of motherhood, the former Material Girl still prides herself on stirring up shit. This time Madonna’s target isn’t sexual repression, however. She’s taking on the Bush Administration’s war on Iraq. Madonna has just shot the video for her forthcoming single "American Life," which will appear on her album of the same name. Madonna’s publicist has told Reuters that the video is a "thought-provoking" anti-war statement that asks viewers to question the glorification of war that contains a certain number of violent images. The video was directed by Jonas Akerlund and casts Madonna as a superhero taking on the uglier aspects of American culture. While many American artists have spoken out on the looming war and their government’s post-9/11 behaviour (Steve Earle, Madonna’s ex-hub Sean Penn) no one of Madonna’s caliber has made such a controversial stance. We’ll note, however, that "American Life" is not an anti-war song. The song itself is about American cultural values, Madonna makes her political statement solely through the images in the video. The American Life album is scheduled to be released on April 22 and the video should hit the nation’s music stations by the end of March. Madonna is also planning to release a career-spanning box set this year in celebration of her 20th anniversary as a professional performer. |
