Dj No More?
Take this little blurb from my latest dream. Imagine a club where there was no dj. A completely automated system that took a vote of your music preference as you walked in. The computer dj would play tunes based on voting cards or swipe cards with information containing your top favorites and tune selection. As the club gets louder and more people show up the information is collected and the computer dj selects the next track or next pick. It mixes the tunes without failure based on BPM counters imbedded in each track. It also collects information relating to sales at the bar and can regulate the pace of the music to keep people drinking. This cpu even takes requests. Walk up to the terminal and highlight your choice and see if it's within the crowds taste.
Ever think something like this would fly? fORM |

i think it would work at a Top 40 club where no one knows or cares about the DJ to begin with.... can't really see it flying at a party or a more underground club setting though. for one thing, people want to see the DJ playing, it's part of the experience... and secondly, i think with the more specialized music genres (house, dnb, trance, etc) people aren't going out to hear their favorite songs - especially the lowest common denominator of the whole room's favorite songs. People want to hear new shit, bits they've never heard that take you by surprise.
Besides, how would the machine know to 'kick it up a notch' if it started loosing the dancefloor? :c-tard: |

for regular club music that just gets bar-mixed for a few seconds it'd be fine, but i don't think AI could properly mix records... there's an element of personal taste and timing in a mix that makes people want to see an actual dj.
edit: in other words, what rawb and wood said. |

Yeah ive here about them trying to create somthing like that? But theres another one where evryone in the night club would ware rist bands that listen to their paulse and would then sent it back to the computer and the computer dj would tally the crowds pualse and choose a song thats going to suit the mood ect. Im sure one day they will come up with somthing to try out, but yeah dj's into producing and with good taste ect will still get a shot out there i supose? And if this device doesnt put u out of a job, ive read in mix mag where there's some new techknowlegy coming up soon that could kill viyl. Luckly Vancouver isnt that far ahead :P
