U think U Vancouver Junglist R Hardcore?
I got into this conversation with one of my pomy friends Mike asking what kind of music their into England and if they classify and judge all there music lover's like we do here?
Well you know how hip hop RnB is huge here, the US, Australia and meny other countys. Well they dont have much at all in the UK. Its not big and they dont get all the homys and gangsters going to the clubs looking for it. Instead all there gangsters and "homys" are into jungle and drum n base. And its those clubs that are known for shootings, fights, gang ware fare ect. Remember the movie Ali G, that would explain why most of his trax where DnB and jungle? I just found that pretty intresting, for one hip hop not being big.. so that whole crowd gets into jungle? Ill have to be careful b4 going to a drum nbase club in the uk or know whet im gtting into? |

yeah but the thing is english people and europeans in general are fuckin pussies compared to gangsters in north america. i mean shit, in cities like new york they have three or four gang related homicides a day...
junglists are wiggers who go to raves, but if you ask me jungle is more hardcore then gangster rap. |

Actually I think it's more the garage scene over there that's pulling the gangsta crowd. Definitely a few years back you had that element in the jungle scene, but what i gather from friends & acquaintances in the uk dnb scene is that most of those people have moved over to the garage/2step clubs. Drumnbass clubs are, for the most part, very peaceful & friendly. I'm sure there's still some parts of the scene over there, like the ragga scene, that are more prone to attracting a bad element, but not at the big club events like Fabric or The End.

oh and to answer the question... NO i don't think i'm hardcore, i'm at damn near every dnb event in this city and i'm really not seeing very many people fronting like they're gangsters. i see more tough-guy types at house shows, for fucks sakes. The dnb scene here is, to my eye, probably the friendliest, most peaceful, and least pretentious crowd in the city. I don't see these 'wiggers' that people seem to associate with the jungle scene... maybe because i stay away from Plaza parties. But i don't think anyone in vancouver's dnb scene thinks that they are 'hardcore'. we like to party hard, but there's no chance of violence. i don't know where anyone would even get that idea.

sorry mates just thought id share somthing. Didnt think this would get into a flame war?
Personaly I found it realy intresting knowing they dont have hip hop much at all in the uk. And how we see the hip hop scene here in North America is what there DnB seen is more like there. Sorry if I afended any junglist in Vancouver, the poms probly are pretty weak and u must b one of the ultimate jungle massive here in vancouver, sorry. i'm hardcore, i'm a hardcore insta junglist boh! </sarcasm>
umm, yeah... i've been to the UK, and I've been to some jungle nights there... from what I saw, the ppl that attend their nights can be a bit more intimidating, but definitely not 'gangstas'... and I've been to tons of club events here, except for a few incidents (*coughHAIRPULLINGATJOHNBcough*) I haven't ever had a problem, or seen a problem that has escalated to more that just a tame 'mosh pit' scenario. |

I havent been here for over a year so I would have no clue about the jungle scene in van. But what I do have to ask is why r we discussign the whole hardcore jungle thing? I thought we grew up a long time ago I see it purely as a joke pointing at that one mahsive youngster on meth?

as an aside, my .02 on the difference in gangsters' choice of music is that thugs aren't in it for the music, they're in it for image. if happy hardcore had a hard image over here instead of hip hop you know they'd be on it in a second. hell, in kelowna i've seen thugs blaring country... maybe that's just indicative of kelowna's incredible depth of culture though :P if you'll excuse me i'm gonna go buy some cowboy boots, an ecko jacket, and a castro then confuse the hell out of all my friends. woo! |

sorry this is a little off topic...
the jungle scene over here is fucked up, it started off they were all candy kids, then for the most part everyone got fucked up on drugs especially jib, then they realized happy hardcore sucks (IMO) and now they are permanently fucked up and bitter so they try to start shit at parties...i dont really mind the jungle scene so much, i dont get why people care so much? i think the hardcore aspect adds some excitement to the night! I know i'm stereotyping but for the most part its true... i love jungle, and i dont mind the scene at all...so what if some people are agro? we are all there for the same reason..to listen to some great music!!! :keebler: |
