recording peoples sets @parties/clubs
anyone take intrest in this? my friend has recorded sets with his md recorded using the mic though its not the best quality.
would the stage manager or dj or promoter persons would allow u to plug a l/r rca audio cable into the back of the mixer? i guess it would depend on you asking their permission first? |

Some friends of mine wanted to record their sets when we were doing a party up north. I forget how we exactly accomplished it but somehow we ended up feeding the entire sound system through a tape deck and they'd record their sets that way. The funny thing, though, was every time one side of the tape ended, half the speakers would go dead! :284:

It's a good idea. There is this company in Seattle that does a lot of Seattle parties. I had a dope set of Dieselboy and MC Flipside from Blyss 2001. Even though Flipside was rhyming for over 3hrs, it was still dope 2 hear and see live! Phat!!!!
Mixes of the headliners would be dope. This way we can rip the "exclusive" or "white labels" they play. :kam: |

Precise does this all the time when a visiting Breaks DJ (typically from the UK) is in town!
As you pointed out, typically DJ's wouldn't mind but you should ask them first. OH... and when you are plugging in your MD records DO NOT bump the tables or f_ck up the mixer! |

:179::179::179::179::179::179: we record most of our touring Djs sets, although most of em aren't into letting anyone other that those involved in the show hear it. Worried about dubplate leakage i guess, although it doesn't seem like there's much anyone could do with a mixed set... |

recording sets is fun and sometimes profitable, which is why you should always always always ask whoever's playing if they're cool with being recorded. if it's ok, just find an aux-out and plug whatever you're recording onto in. voila, recorded set. watch for clipping and battery death.
i've been experimenting with direct-to-disk recording lately. minidisc is too goddamned annoying... you get to sit on your ass for 80 minutes while digitizing it to make masters off it. in the future, people will record sets digitally! *cue sci fi music* so far i haven't found anything for windows that's even remotely stable enough to record a set with. i've been itching to set up Darwin on a mac laptop though. mac hardware, pure BSD OS... stability of the gods. anyone got any powerbooks for sale cheap? |

Ya but what they find out can land your ass in a nasty law suite
Just to be clear im talking about pluggin in an external device into the mixer to record a high quality recording. There isnt much they can do if your just walking around the club with a mic and an MD. but then again the quality is shit anyway. Last edited by Special-K; Mar 17, 03 at 03:22 PM. |
