i've never used one, so i can't comment much, but John B was using Numarks... Axis8's i think. celebrity endorsement is always good.
the Pioneer CDJ1000 looks like the one i'd buy if i had the money. having a cd deck around to play my dubs and rare mp3's cheaply would rule. in fact, it would be so much ruleage that i'd have no choice but to fuckin give'r and shotgun a few pilsners. as for what to look for, my personal concerns with them so far have been whether they play CD-R's, how pure of a signal i'm going to get out of them (built in compressors and eq's? no thanks), how much abuse their lazer can take in terms of scratched cd's, and finally what kind of scratching emulation they've got and what the pad feels like under your hand. it's funny what kind of details you come up with after sitting for hours drooling over shit you can't afford... sigh.
