the current state of popular music...
i don't like it....
i just heard a remix of mobb deep's shook one's with a wannabe toni braxton singing the lyrics to shaun desmond's -that girl got me shook...what the fuck is up with that, first of all that beat is a sinister fuckin beat, it shouldn't only be used by hardcore black gangsters from either queens or brooklyn..perferably queen's. i mena what are they trying to do? be unorignal as possible. the second track that i heard after that was some doc dre and eminem track were there dissing jermaine dupre because he aint gangster, and because he talked smack..what the fuck is this? two super rich millionaires dissing another millionaire because he said stupid shit. Its like bill gates making a rap song shit talking the guy who runs sun microsystems. man if i was dre or miem id be too busy couting my money and railing blow offa hookers to give a fuck about what someone else said. this brings me to the point of this post, which is im getting pretty tired of the mainstream radio stations in this city, why can't we have a radio station that plays electronic music, and funkier mainstream music? why is it that trashy music is the most popular music? is it because of the main buying demographic is dumb ass kids? secondly we need to bring back the funk yo! the government should subsidize the drug habbits of musicians just so we can get some more creative and funky material out. i mean look at jamiroquai, rick james, all those disco guys and micheal jackson, they are undeniably wacked on drugs all the time and they made some good fuckin music. maybe not MJ, but that cat was just fucked in the head. disco and funk was big in the 80's...why can't it be big again?.. |

Originality isn't marketable because no one knows what it is in the first place and don't have the time to take a listen to it. Really, I think maybe 20% (generously) of the Western population are deeply into music to make the time to hear original sounding stuff, and then maybe 30% (generously) of them can actually afford it to the point it might be profitable to corporate big-wigs.
Meh... I've beaten my head against the wall for far too long about this. :soak: |

I agree with what you are saying though Sean. Mainstream trash gets pumped out so fast and carelessly that it's depressing to me. I honestly think that some of these songs are produced in about 20 minutes. Find a catchy beat that someone else created, scour the streets in search of the biggest tool you can find, choreograph(sp) some dance moves, throw a pound of make-up over his or her generic face, give them someone else's lines to sing (using the word sing lightly), and you have a track.
On another note: Whoever mutilated 'shook one' like that should be beat to death with a sock full of marbles. "Cause ain't no such thing as half-way crooks" |
