the Duke's alright but the whole big band sound is just too much for me. i prefer the smaller ensembles - trios and quartets.
speaking of vocalists, does anyone has a collection of lena or shirley horn mp3s that they can share? and what's your fave jazz hangouts in the city? i used to be a regular at the Bluenote until it burnt down. now i go to the cellar but only every few months. chris gestrin owns. as does bernie arai. Blues and Jazz are the two most soulful genres in existence.. too bad you can never make money doing them :(
but hey.. that's what makes these musicians so damn great, they do it for the love not the money.. NOT LIKE RAP FUCKERS.. PS.. Bev, didn't you say you were gonna let me go through your dads vinyls? /me is foaming at the mouth |
