Recording Mixes

I think I might record a mix and I'm wondering what program I should use, and other things that I should know before I go about doing so.

soundforge.

this app has alot more depth and is much more intuitive than other products out there.

but, please buy the software or use sharware.... people who rip off sonic foundry and other great developers piss me right off!

how serious are you about makin music if you cant save up a paychecks worth to buy a vital program.

software companies do wonderful things for there registerd users. like send you free beta copys of reason 2.5 to try out.

I would have no problem buying software if I was going to use it do anything other than record a mix for myself to listen to. Especially because this was just a spur of the minute thing...

I ended up just recording it to my minidisc, which is all I really needed, I did however start looking through the demo version of soundforge and it seems quite cool... I may just have to buy a copy.

Soundforge is 1 track based. I think Cool Edit Pro is multitracked.

Make sure all your connectiosn are in correctly, all wires are grounded, also test the volume and bass by doing a sample test. And then play it to hear it. You'll be surprised how well it sounds to you, but comes out horrible after your done mixing.

if you're on a pc use Cakewalk SONAR. it's easily the best multitracker out there. Cakewalk was the standard for PC audio production before Sonic Foundry even existed.

as much as i hate to say this though, it's the truth: don't record a set direct to disk on a PC. just don't. you're delusional if you think windows will stay stable through 80+ minutes of recording. if you have a mac and ProTools though, go to town, just don't tell anyone i said that.
