I would like your opinion

Say What!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So many dj's, so many promoters in Van.

Who do you think is a good local dj? and why...

another question...

Who do you think throws the best parties? and why...

The reason I ask. Cause...the more we as dj's and promoters know about what ya'll want, the better we can get at bringing to ya!!!

Props :smoke1: to those that take the time to reply, and those that don't wanna bother, then stop haten', :moon: and stay with the status-quo.

Peace! :keebler:

There are a lot of great local DJs, but I've gotta give mad props to Julian. He invests a lot of time and money into getting VERY up front shit, and his mixing is never short of flawless. He's a cut above the crowd IMO, and I wish there were more promoters in the city that booked based on talent and programming as opposed to ability to suck cock.

From what Sean said about Julien, he stated probably the most important thing (IMO) about what separates an average dj to a dedicated dj. The average dj is one who may have good intentions and also may just wanna have some fun, which is totally fine since its all about the fun. But then the dedicated dj is the one who sees what they do in a more deeper way... it could be a form of expression, maybe a form of art, or even a more advanced way to rock a party ......rather than just simply playing anthem after anthem without any form of programming or advanced mixing skills. ive actually never heard Julien play so i guess i'm gonna have to check him out! =)

then again, haha i like the way Sean put it, djs who go up there for their "sucking cock skills"... bwahahhaha i'm not gonna bother going futher into that but werd Sean nicely put man hahaha i totally agree with everything you said :hehe:

I guess for a promoter, business skills, intentions, knowlegde of the whole electronic scene, nerdyness to the slickness scale.... every promoter dominates in one way or the other.... but as far as i know, the ET Brothers are who i have always respected as the most impressive promoting crew i have seen here in Vancouver. Not only does their knowledge of the electronic scene far exceed the average raver, their budget for parties definetly seemed high from the level of production they put in (damn magic mountain when olav and swamp were playing.... the setup, the lineup.... amazing), awesome following of supporters who attend their events, and a diverse music genre selection so everyone gets what they want in the end. think about their regular residents.... dekoze, horsey, ollie ple, jungle soldier, grooverobber himself.... all AWESOME djs.... really talented and they all know what theyre doing....its REALLY too bad they announced that they were not going to throw anymore parties but who knows maybe they will make a comeback again =)

He's quality. Not sure what nights he'll be playing out at over the next months, but I think he might be opening for Sandra Collins, and we'll definitely be having him at Ascension on a monthly basis or so, possibly more.

Oh yeah, and as for promoters. Mad props to PH1, the dude is bringing in a sick amount of talent. Hybrid and Collins in May, and then that Dieselboy show in June. *heart* This is only the beginning of what's to come for this year too from what I understand!

Yo Sean, K-Pryde. Props to you both :smoke1:

I couldn't agree more with what both of you have said.

As a Dj myself, it is a defintie challenge to keep bringing fresh material and style to ones performance, (something that I try hard to do on a consistent basis...)

And as for the "cock sucking factor" ; I don't own any knee-pads if anyone was wondering.

it's an ugly side of the business that will never go away. But I believe that type of shit can definitely be cut-down on. How? you might ask...my personal opinion is...

If people such as yourselves demand the best from promoters, let them know, that as avid party and club goers what you want to see more of, and what you can do with-out. Cause in the end, money talks, and if people don't buy tix, then tactics must change. If everyone cared just a little bit, then things have to change.

[ as a side note...a party doesn't have to contain internationally recognized dj's in-order to draw a crowd, there are tonnes of local dj's that do a much better job of rocking a party then many of these so-called "super-star dj's"....we just have to ask for it ]

Unfortunately politicin' is a fact of life in the music entertainment industry, but with the effort of conscience party goers things will change. Not over night, but they will change.

peace, thanks for you thoughts.!!.. :keebler:

The fundamental flaw in asking such a question is that the average party goer doesn't seem to want much more beyond huge beats and immediate riffs, hence the over-abundance of hard house and trance headliners. Those seeking quality need to look no further, then, than smaller, intimate parties where music knowledge is ace, such to the point that the party goers may end up talking more codshit about the music rather than actually enjoying it.

Ah... balance... such a difficult thing to obtain... :smoke1:

My thoughts exactly. PH1 aka Rev is the man for sure,,, he is deffinetly someone who I am planning on working with in the future. I'm not a fan of d'n'b/jungle,,, but his show with Dieseboy and AK1200 is simply HUGE. That and he has braught Picotto and now Hybrid,,, what can you say to something like that?!?!? Simply awesome =)
