upgrades on your dj setup?
If you have say 1200 bucks to blow on new dj gear to upgrade your current setup, what would you spend it on and why? and please i'm only talking hardware not more vinyl.
if i got final scratch, i've got access to thousands of mp3s on my computer.... but i need a better computer to actually run the fuckin thing and a new laptop is another $2000..... but i'm still only limited to 2 channels to play around with if i got a cd deck like the new pioneer or the new denon, i've got the advantage of accessing mp3s through cds just like final scratch, plus a sampler, effects, digital scratching.... not too shabby. and i've got 2 turntables.... the extra digital medium over 2 decks could mean alot more fun if i got a new mixer (more channels is my main concern) i'd have to save up more for more decks or whatever i'm gonna plug in so i can actually use the extra channels... but a bigger mixer with more interesting functions like an fx board is always more fun if i got more turntables, i'd need more phono channels.. which means a bigger mixer..... right now i'm thinking i'd go for a new cd deck. final scratch is also still very tempting though.... i still really need a new mixer and more decks isnt really necessary but damn think of the possibilities!!! so yeah what would you blow 1200 bucks on for your dj setup? |

Either go for a good cheaper CD deck (ie Pioneer CDJ500) or a new mixer... If I had 1200 to spare Id get a new mixer for sure. I played around on an Allen&Heath Xone and holy shit are they sweet! SOund quality is lightyears past the PCV175 and I love the whole "feel" of the mixer (also it has an adjustable fader and second mid). So if u do get a new mixer in that price range, go for one of those. From what I've heard pioneer DJM600s arent very good and 500s are supposed to have slightly better sound quality for some reason.... Im not positive on this since I havent experienced it first hand, but I have heard enough complaints around against the DJM600 vs other mixers in the same price range (ie Rane, Allen&Heath) that I've become a little skeptical...
But I dunno, I dont really have access to that many good MP3s seeing as I get most songs I want on vinyl pretty quick so thats why ID get the mixer... Another thing u could go for are some good quality moniters. |

yeah for 1200 you could get a pretty dope sound system... i've been looking at the NAD amps and mirage speakers. i dont think i'd go for loudspeaker PA's for home use though... theyre just harsh
any sound experts know of some dope deals for 2 channel sound systems for home use? with lotta bass (but clear bass, not droning bass), enough volume, clear mids and highs in the $1200 - $1500 range? |

Pro 600 mixer all the way!!! Right now ive still got my lill baby vestex pro 6, witch is perfect for scratching and begining... I need somthing wtih a mid knob as well, and being able to practice with the sound efects, and its a industry standerd... is the any reason why not???
Otherwise a crome reccord crate wouldnt be bad. My reccord bag is starting to get a lill ware and tare... a hard reccord crate would help me bring out more reccords and keep then in better condition. or put it towards a computer and program to start making/editing demos and star producing. Why? Why not... I reckon it would be tons of fun and i need somthing so i can actualy start making demos in my own home all the time. ....Dreams... soon enough |

Ive heard Final Scratch is a bitch if the program crashes on the laptop. Your pretty much fucked if that goes down and you didnt bring any vinyl.
CD Mixer was be dope, this way you can always burn new tracks and play them with ease. It seems CDR's are getting more popular than white labels because there cheap and easy to produce. I personally would get a nice speaker setup and new headphones. My Technics dj1200 is suffice for me. |
