BlahBlahabLahaha
Breakbeat producers seem to be dropping tracks every second week. The thing is, most of them are quality too! I have been spending alot of money on records lately and find it even harder finding breaks that are rare around here. We all seem to have the same gems. Uk breaks have pretty much turned into a genre like DnB theres spotters everywhere. I can't remember the last time i heard a dj set where I could'nt name atleast 6 or 7 of the tracks played..Wut must djs do now? I havent played out much to begin with but this makes me want to build my collection even more before seriously contimplaiting playing out. Creativitey is definatley in demand now that we all have the same tracks and I think thats what sets alot of us apart example; Slim and his sax. Sure he plays breaks and from what I have heard we play alot of the same stuff. But incorporating a live instrument is definatley whut seperates the monkeys from the men along with great scratching, vocals, and crowd interaction. If you have Beatmatching, programming, and the more technical aspects of djing down you better start working on other things to compliment your set.
Its time to upgrade!!!!! I guess I could make this a question also. WHo stands out locally/worldwide in creativity when it comes to spinning records? I think donald glaude is amazing. For one his crowd interaction is amazing example; screaming at ravers while cutting up a disco track and second he manages to flow from genre to genre without any complications. |

You make a very good point Matty... A lot of us do have the same tracks!
To answer your question about "creative spinning:" Locally: Czech (no need to say more), Precise (tends to get the tracks faster than anyone in Vancouver but he invests a TREMENDOUS amount of time and money to find them just to have them 6-weeks before stores get them, Cinto (flawless sets with some pretty damn funk-ay tracks of his own that are continually being pressed), for shear talent and originality in the Disco House area - Dave Armstrong and Christian Alvarez. Flave is certainly crazy behind the decks... as is BBB, Josh the Funky 1 -- anyone who can really mix it up with tracks we may very well all have, but in combination with something else, it turns into something totally different. I can go on and on! |

I don't think it is necessary to call it a fad.` I would call it more of a stepping stone. Djing is usually(exceptions) the first stepping stone. Taking it to another level by playing most of your own tracks is the next step up. And so on till your bad boy bill dropping 4 tracks in 2 minutes seemlessly then beat juggling New york hardhouse for 2:00 minutes.
