It was the day after Spooky 5 it think ( it was the one bfore the one at the PNE at the plaza ). I just bumped into some dude there and he was selling some cheap tables and mixer. So i said SOLD! Picked them up and started playing.....................
The main person who really got me hooked in it was Zahid ( MR. Sinister )......i'm sure i would've giving up djing if i never bumped into him. I sort of just taught myself but got motivation and feedback from him. My first gig would be a sketchy party that me and Zahid put on called Mysterious.......fun times..hehe :c-tard: |

the first time i messed with decks was at Soup's place in nelson but i didn't actually get into mixing until i got to use Incision and Thistle's gear, which would have been around sept. of 2001. since then those sumbitches have consistently put the fear of god in me (read: them = insane turntablists, me = lame scratch weenie).
i think the story's pretty much the same for everyone: got hooked, practiced on a friend's shitty old loaner decks, got serious and dropped more money on gear than any sane person would, and i'm now perpetually broke because of my record habit. damn you jungle, damn you for ruining my life ;) Last edited by dfltr; Aug 05, 03 at 11:42 AM. |

got my first decks in '89, summer before grade 11. i didn't know any other DJs when i started, and when i finally did start hooking up with a few we were all pretty much at the same level, so we just kinda taught ourselves
DJ'd house parties & school functions for the first couple of years, but i got my first club gig around '93 in Victoria at Buckley's which soon became The Limit (now One Lounge). by '96 i was a 'room 2' regular at all Victoria's raves, playing DnB, which i started collecting in '95. before that it was all hiphop, reggae & a little house & techno..... several club nights, afterhours, parties & radio shows later, relocated to Vancouver to open another record shop (Boomtown Van) and basically went back to square one with my DJing career. Spinning DnB has been much more fruitful here than it ever was in Vic though! :smoke1: |

I played around with a friends decks and got hooked, bought my own 8 months ago, best thing I've ever done. A few friends taught me the basics, but I've pretty much taught myself. More of a hobby for me, not too serious about playing gigs, played a few house parties though. (yet)
Now I spend too much cash on vinyl. I think dfltr said it best, "damn you jungle, damn you for ruining my life". |

I started DJ'ing top40 in 2000 when a close friend of mine got a job dj'ing at Kits Pub. I'd cover shifts for him and whatnot and really enjoyed the DJ'ing itself, but seriously disliked a lot of the music I had to play there. After doing that for about a year I got some decks and started playing music I actually enjoyed.

Summer 95.... was 17.... Lived with a DJ and many other musicians in a house of debachuary.... taught by my good friend Rudy at first, then fined tuned the skills on my own (though Andrew Spence aka Slim taught me a thing or 2-years later in how to be a true pro on the decks).... played my first gig at some small town club in Ontario with Robb G (we went to High School together).... haven't stopped since!
