My advice: save the extra dough and get a GOOD setup, cause when you get good you wouldn't now have to go out and upgrade your gear.
It doesn't have to be NEW necessarily. Check out the Buy & Sell and stuff like that. You can get a pretty good setup (decks, mixer and all) for $1200. A friend of mine snagged a deal like that when he got his gear. Emmanuel |

yeah, i agree with everyone elses posts so far
the best advice i ever got was to not get one of those "all-in-one" dj packages. save up until you can buy good decks (techs or ttx1's) if you buy lower-end decks you're just going to be saving up to buy better ones in the future... and when you're trying to sell your old decks you'll be lucky to even sell them for HALF of what you paid for. john 2899131 |

it's all about the ghetto decks. if it's got a platter and a pitch control on it, go to town. roll some homeless guy for his socks and trade them to a friend who's got ghetto old POS decks laying around. learn your touch on shitty decks... it'll frustrate the hell out of you but your fingers will forever be more sensitive.
if you've been playing for a while and just want your first setup, by all means, save up and buy tech MK2's. they feel like you're playing records on godzilla's biceps... uh, in english i guess that means they've got the best torque of any tech you're going to find for a halfway decent price right now. as for a mixer, i recommend the Vestax 06. it's pretty cheap as far as quality mixers go and it'll stand up to newbie turntablist bashing... i should know, i have one, and i bash it with my flailing incompetence... uh, i mean my mad skillaz. yeah... |

learn off a friends set, if u feel urself develop skill and want to persue it more then save and buy ur own set of tech, i got shit newmarks and they sucked ass cuz the pitch kept changing on its own over time which made it very frustraiting to beat match, now techs are pleasure to use.

You cant even spin properly on shitty decks. It doesnt have the feel of any of the high torque decks that you'll play out on in clubs. Forget about trying to scratch as well.
Look on ebay and you can get a deal for $1000usd or so. Then if you dont like it in 3 months you can probably sell them for the same amount. Try that with any cheap decks...the resail value's shit. I recomend the numarks. Uber cool features, way ahead of the techs. |

you're right, they don't have the feel of decks in clubs... a beginner isn't going to be playing in clubs anyways, so it's no real loss. a beginner isn't going to be scratching either... by the time you get a proper feel and learn some record and fader control you'll know whether you want to invest and move up to techs or not.
as for resale value, ghetto decks are going to cost you around $100 from a friend, so i doubt anyone would be crying a river over it. |

got both of mine for $600 cdn off ebay.. thats $600 including taxes, shipping, brokerage, everything
if i bought them here they'd be $750.. now plus pst and gst it comes to around $855 which is actually $255 more than what i paid :kimmie: (savings like these make me blush) john 2899131 |

Actually for the price right now on the market I personally think that the new uni-body american audio turntable is pretty sick. Comes with +10/20 Pitch control variable start up and slow down speed control. Two start/stop buttons for use depending on set-up style. I am a hater of American Dj products but I have to admit against everything I tell other people, this table is actually pretty awesome. In my humble opinion it is the best deal I have seen for a table with these features and torque in awhile. I got a pair from American audio to demo for a coupleof weekes and My report back to them was very favorable. Just giving you something to think about.

Buddy, if you just invest 1000, you can get a pair of techs of ebay. Then if you dont like them 3 months later, sell them for 1000. No loss. John, one thing the techs have numarks beat on. Durability. No computer chip in the techs to break. Techs are tanks. I wouldnt be so sure about a numark. |

[edit] i dont mean for this to turn into a turntable war, i just want the guy to know that he can get a better bang for his buck with certain tables than with a tech [/edit] john 2899131 Last edited by stringbeans; Aug 18, 03 at 05:40 PM. |

The TTx-1 on ebay arent used. They havent been taken out of the box and are at that price.
Anyways, my advice also would be to go for the tech 12's. I had at least 20 different tables before I got my first 12 and goddam theres a huge difference! |
