ack i didnt like the movie that much even though it was pretty realistic and i tried to figure out why and it was the music, that pussy ass shit corgan put all over this movie annoyed me to no end,(i almost turned it off during the 10min intro song) i dont know any meth heads that listen to shit like that when they are high, it totally raped the whole mood of this movie.
i hate swan, but i like the pumpkins |

hmmm yeah i can see why you'd feel that way but my guess is that most of the meth addicts you know are ravers (just an asumption...i could be wrong). and i think the idea of the "raver" really doesn't play into this movie due to the fact that a great number of meth users are necessarily in the rave scene. the movie explores one group of meth users and in this specific group, i think the music really parallels the characters emotions and personas. The simplistic "pussy ass shit" really captures the loneliness and emptiness that the characters in Spun keep spiralling towards. Although the actual soundtrack is, at times, very heavy in emotion (or some would argue...light in emotion) there's a sense of raw beauty in the vocals. And it's this what really makes the soundtrack effective cuz it provides a juxtaposition between the character's "ugliness" and beauty. but perhaps the music was produced in this very manner to show that things DONT fit. something is not right. i guess it essentially provides an atmosphere in which the movie takes place. if the soundtrack were to be made up of tech step jungle, for example, it wouldn't tie into the movie due to the fact that the characters can't relate to that kind of music. the movie is about the trials and tribulations of one specific group of meth users and the movie is so heavily based on emotion...i think any other type of music on the soundtrack would be an injustice to the movie. but that's just me. and chris, yeah i got it on mp3. i'll just burn a copy for you. -s. |
