Getting that first show....

Bah, I really can't say much about this cause well people tracked me down to play... (I suck, but play a reletivly unplayed in van music)

Here is what I've noticed that would help most people.

Knowing people.

Simple, you know them, they need a dj, bam.

Not a sure thing though, cause if you suck, well your shit out of luck. ha!

If you can, play at a few smaller shows (get used to the hole crowd ting so you don't slip up in front of a few hundred people)

Demo Tape's/Cd's/Mp3's

Fuck demo tapes. They are shit.
Most people I know use cd's.
you think the promoter gives a flying fuck about you? He's not going to go out of his way to put some tape in his walkman which he has to dig out of his closet.

Cd's- Best way to go. No doubt about it. For god sakes, remeber to divide the tracks.
Mp3's- same, you got one, you got both.

Be orginal.

you like Goa, but you think nobody will book you cause you play it.
Wrong.
You think your going to get bookings by playing jungle cause that's what they want. Well you won't.

you waste money on records you don't care for, you won't get into the music, and you will get bored easy.

This is all my ramblings though. I never really did any of these except the orginal thing, but i know people who have done them and it does help.

#1. Being in the right place at the right time with a mixtape

#2. Keeping your mouth in check so when the promoter asks about you to other DJs and promoters, they dont say you're an asshole. I've turned down for this reason many a time.

#3. Playing for free at houseparties & stuff. People who will book you will be there sometimes and get to see you live.
