I first started with mostly DnB. Then Breaks still doing a lill dnb. Later I opened up to funky disco house too. Back then I could affored 3 genre's... Now im mostly focused on just house... I also have a collection of anything from hip hop, smashing pumpkins, speed garage, and trance but I rarely play them out.

I've been spinning progressive house, trance and techno for awhile now. My bpms usually range from 135-136 to 138-141. Not exactly the same as mixing d'n'b with trance,,, but I like to try and have a bit of diversity and play proper opening sets.

I play everything that I love...........usually harder stuff anything techy, my collection ranges from rare groove, hip hop, d/t, prog, trance, techno,d&b,breaks and psy
I usually do one radio show a month that incorporates almost all of these genres and every two months I do an old school night where I highlight lost anthems |

I can and have mixed most genres of music, but I realized that if I wanna be a serious DJ it's time to pick maybe 2 or 3 genres and stick to those until I've got enough records to play really diverse sets, instead of having to play the same crap every time I mix those genres... So for now I've narrowed it down to Nu Skool Breaks, Progressive House, and Deep House/Breaks
Still got records of other genres, but don't mix them too often anymore cuz they're all older stuff and to my mind they're pretty played, hehe |

I cover the spectrum from the housey side of progressive to the techy side of trance. BPM range is usually 127 - 140. I'd love to play a 5 hour set one of these days and play the full range of my records. Fusing prog, breaks, trance and techno is awesome IMO.

I love when dj's play a little bit of everything in one set - changing up the types of sounds played is always a good thing in my opinion. When you can mix many different genre's and make it sound great - I think that is talant :) Kind of like Donald Glaude - he plays quite a few different genre's and he's awesome.

i personally don't want to hear, dnb and breaks in a set, or dnb and breaks or house. dnb and hip hop works. it works with dancehall too.
breaks & prog house work too. i don't think speed garage, breaks, dnb, deep house and hip hop should be mixed together... makes it sound like a top 40 set. i want it to have a nice feel to it.. that could be me.. but anything more than say 3 genres in a set is overdoing it. UNLESS, it's a set like say like one that z-trip would pull off, using samples of all kinds of shit and little 30 sec teasers all orchestrated into a set like only a handful of dj's can do. but hey, i really doubt anyone on here can come close. |

I've had weekly residencies since I started djing. Starting as a top 40/hiphop jock I learned playing a wide variety of music.
can't afford to buy them all but in the last 8years now I have been able to collect most types of electronic dance, club music and left field. Who wants to play the same shit every week? no one and if you limit your self to one genere..... you are doing only that there is too much good music. I'm a real pack rat with my records I'd eat the shit for breakfast. but will not trade or sell my records, (been know to make a few exceptions) If I'm parting with a record I'm giving it to a someone who will put it to work. dnb jungle happy/hard core (mostly old skooter reccids) break beat 2 step garage All sorts of house Progressive house Progressive breaks Progressive trance Hard Dance Hard Techno Hard Trance Goa Left field Euro dance ( me and miss B inside the cheese area) Hip hop synth pop And a couple thousand classic rock/ pop pieces from back in the day. So if any of you buggers want to play some reccids give me a call cuz I am always looking to play my other tunes |

so everyone who follows multiple genres, what tracks/styles are you feelin for each one to mix em up?
myself in the house and trance side really feeling the bedrock style progressives, Steve Lawler, Digweed, Nalin & Kane, Nick Muir i'm liking the energetic pvd stuff but mixed up with harder (but deep n bassy) sides of funky house like Cevin Fisher, Harry Choo choo Romero, Robbie Rivera, Olav Basoski trance wise damn fire and ice, dumonde, pvd, oakenfold, moogwai.... soo much crazy stuff out there..... just a matter of being able to find 90% of the tracks on wax dnb.... theres alotta crazy hard dark gindy shit being pushed out constantly now. Theres the new infrared styles of things with futurebound and j majik just pounding out heavy heavy shit. Ram.... whoa..... shimon remix of tudor rose? fuuuuuuuckin heavy. but i'm definetly all over infrareds heavy stuff as well as intercom! tommy knocker and ez rollers are on fuckin FIRE!! new soul:r and markys tracks are fuckin insanely good.... too much good shit out there i could never give up on dnb :keebler: |
