A question for people who sell their vinyl.
Why would you do this?
If you've invested your hard-earned cash into it, why would you want to get rid of it for a fraction of the cost (assuming you're not selling rare collectibles, if, in which case, this question is rendered moot). Is it because you don't like it anymore? How can that be if you enjoyed it enough to slap down some coin for it in the first place? Is it because a dream to become the next Oakenfold didn't turn out quite how you planned? It still isn't any reason to not continue to spin just for the enjoyment of it. Is it because expenses are more than you originally budgeted for and you need the spare cash? Fair enough but maybe you should have planned for this eventuality when you invested your money into vinyl in the first place. This is just something that's been bugging me lately after seeing quite a number of 'Selling My Vinyl' threads. Since I'm quite the audiowhore, I find it perplexing that anyone would want to get rid of their music. Shed some light on the subject, if you will.... :) |

When I started playing music a couple years back My style was all over the place I couldnt really settle down. Now I have a bit more foundation when choosing records. There are way to many records I don't play simply b/c my style has progressed and I realize what I bought was crap.

personally i sell off a stack of records every year or so, so that i have room to live in my apartment....
I know lots of people get rid of old bits to raise some cash to buy new stuff.... c'mon, you can't tell me you've never bought something and then either gotten tired of it, or outgrown it after a couple of years?? I buy a lot of wax so naturally i end up with a few pieces that don't get enough play to justify keeping in my already overloaded collection. Why hang on to something if it will never get used? I also often give records away to friends who will obviously get more use out of them than i.... it just makes sense. |

Its crazy how people want to buy your garbage. rank 1 - airwave original mix (in its first packaging) $300! |

All valid reasons here, I guess. Heck, I've been known to get rid of a few myself, when a hit single from back in the day came with a crummy album. I tend to be able to find some sort of merit in most music, though, so it is a rare instance that I'll get rid of anything. Sure something may sit collecting dust for a year or two but whenever I return to it, it still sounds just as good as when I first got it and thus remains in the collection.
Still, the 'space' issue is a good one. Heh... it's looking like I'm going to have to get myself yet another rack to hold my latest pillage. :) |
