Ortofon Launches 2 new needles!

The GT is the first standard mount only needle in Ortofon's DJ lineup, and is made to be a direct competitor to the Shure 44g/447. The Ortofon Electro on the other hand appears to be a new techno cart, with higer output than any other Ortofon Concorde/OM needle to date. Both should be released around late November, price has yet to be determined. Also of note is the fact that Ortofon seems to be saying in recent hints about these needles on the web that they (specifically the GT) may not be part of the new line that Qbert and co. are putting their name on........

Ortofon GT

Output voltage at 1000 Hz 5cm/sec. : 8 mV
Channel balance at 1 kHz : 1.5 dB
Channel separation at 1 kHz : 25 dB
Channel separation at 10 kHz : 18 dB
Frequency range at - 3dB : 20-20000 Hz
FIM distortion at recommended tracking force, DIN 45.542 : <1%
Tracking ability at 315Hz at recommended tracking force : 81 µm
Spherical needle
Compliance, dynamic, lateral : 6 µm/mN
Equivalent mass of stylus tip : 0.62 mg
Recommended load resistance : 47 kOhm
Recommended load capacitance : 200-400pF
Tracking force range : 3-5 g
Recommended tracking force : 4g
Tracking angle : 20°
Cartridge weight : 5.1g

The Electro seems to have an extra emphasis on the low end that the Nightclub lacked, possibly as a response to the Shure White Label, which tends to have a better bass response and smoother frequency curve than the Nightclub. Holding should be at least as good as the Nightclub if not better, meaning it will be at least somewhat scratchable.

Concorde Elektro

Output voltage at 1000 Hz 5cm/sec. : 7.5 mV
Channel balance at 1 kHz : 1.5 dB
Channel separation at 1 kHz : 25 dB
Channel separation at 10 kHz : 15 dB
Frequency range at - 3dB : 20-22000 Hz
FIM distortion at recommended tracking force, DIN 45.542 : <1%
Spherical needle
Tracking force range : 3-5 g
Recommended tracking force : 4g
Tracking angle : 20°
Cartridge weight : 18.5g (OM 5g)
