Hnn... Downtempo's really kind of a broad term. It could be asking for something like Eno or something like Zero 7 or something like Portisehead or something like The Orb or something like Aphex Twin or something like Jah Wobble or something like Sven Van Heeth or something... Well, you get the idea.
What'd you have in mind? |

I've been listening to Royksopp's Melody AM cd lot's lately, and I must say it's pretty deadly in my opinion. Sammy Skillz mentioned some wicked artists as well, most of those would be on my list too.
One of my friends in the Kootenays recently got hired to do a downtempo cd for a college to give out to students to listen to while they study. They paid for all the records, plus 500$ and a dollar for every cd they give out. Pretty sick deal hey? It's funny, I actually do listen to downtempo a fair bit while I'm doing homework, I think it would rad if my school did that as well. |

the Ecco Chamber label, out of Vienna, has dropped some funky bombs lately, they picked up Baby Mammoth after Pork went under. The new Baby Mammoth LP is sick. I got in the new Dr.Rubberfunk LP last wek as well, very dope jazzy downtempo with an oldschool funk feel. older stuff from Mo'Wax & Ninja Tune can't miss, although both those labels have gone seriously wank over the years imo. G-Stone is another quality label from Vienna, run by Kruder & Dorfmiester & releasing artists like Sterotyp, Tosca and Peace Orchestra. Theivery Corp. & their 18th St. Lounge label are quite good, also from DC the newish Fort Knox label is pushing some seriously hot shit, though not exactly what you'd call 'downtempo' - more like dubwise funky breaks. Thunderball, All Good Funk Alliance & Fort Knox Five are worth checking out. I'm really feeling The Nextmen's Scenario label as well, but that's even further into bashment breaks territory...

yea royksopp is pretty hype...
you might want to check out The Avalanches too i listen to trip hop/downtempo when i need to think up more ideas for art and photography. trip hop gets me really depressed and i work better when i'm in that state of mind. but i don't let it get to the point where i want to cut myself. -s.
