noisy crossfader

when i scratch my crossfader it makes static like pops when i slam it to the left and right sides..this just started happening recently after weeks of hard use... i've heard of this before and was wondering if that static neutral spray shit that u can buy helps get rid of that? or is my crossfader just finished and i need a new one? i dont wanna spend the bucks on this cleaner shit if its not gonna help... thx

take it completely out of the mixer and blow it out with compressed air.
