Plump DJs are creeping up on ya
The next release to be taken from the Plump DJs’ stupendous album ‘Eargasm’ is the mighty 'Creepshow', with the rumbling and menacing ‘Weighed Down’ on the flip. 'Creepshow' (released early February via Finger Lickin) has been a favourite set-opener for the plump ones themselves for some time now: its fat and funky Kool & The Gang brass riffs and relentless driving Plump‑esque beats making it a ‘70s cop show-tinged dancefloor bullet! ‘Weighed Down’ continues the pressure with its sexy and seductive throbbing b-line, tantalising breathy vocals and an ear-bending breakdown… Some terrifying remixes are to follow shortly later this year, courtesy of The Freestylers in Raw As F**k mode and Finger Lickin's very own inimitable Soul of Man. http://www.godbrain.ch/trust01cd.htm |

I really liked weighed down. I think with fingerlickin everyone expects Bombs every track they release. Of course they aren't going to release an "Electric Disco" every month. These tracks have great elements to them and seem to keep the dancefloor moving without having "Anthem" status.

And Finger Lickin going down... with only Krafty's music being the exception is again far far from the truth. Krafty and A Skills album I agree was really dope.... but the Insane Bangers mash (AV8!) record they put out is TERRIBLE IMO. And his singles on Against The Grain... are blah.... IMO. Stereo 8's new material is the best of the lot coming out of the FL camp right now. I don't feel the Slyde new single (Krunk) but I have heard it played out and it canes the floors. Finger Lickin is the best label in breaks.... hands down. As a record peddler I know. We sell more Finger Lickin (way more) then any other label in breaks at Boomtown. And this isn't just because of there amazing back catalogue. The new joints coming out from FL are as hot as the old material. -soda |

yes i am opinionated. I know what i like.
i like the little breakdowns in the track, but its too dark and boring for me. the flip is even worse. compared to the rest of the breaks world, fingerlickin is the best, hands down. thats whats really sad about breaks though. there's nothing even close to fingerlickins stuff. it seems that in the breaks world you've got 3 options: 1) fingerlickin 2)a rip off of something 2)dark, boring, and progressive. there are a few tracks here and there that are hot. all of the tracks coming out of fort knox are fresh. i love all of that. as for krafty...insane bangers wasnt a fingerlickin track, and his against the grain stuff isnt either, so i dont know why you brought that up. i was talking about fingerlickin. anyway....yah i am a dj, but if i was to just spin breaks, I'd go crazy. there's just simply not enough good stuff coming out. i also buy house, hip hop and funk to keep me going. i guess i miss the days of "galaxy" "bumper" and "plumpy chunks." i do understand that you cant come out with an anthem every track, but the plumps style has shifted to something i dont really like anymore. Yeah Insane Bangers wasn't a FL track true.... but it is basically the same style as his album Tricka Technology. I brought up the Against The Grain stuff cause thats the only New stuff that Krafty's done (besides the album)... and it's weak.
Fort Knox is a dope label.... I agree that breaks are a little stale right now.... too many bootlegs.... and too much Meat Katie sounding boring prog breaks. I still think the Plumps are running things, and that there is a positive in this all... and thats that breaks are getting more exposure then they ever have b4. I think eklektic labels are the way of the future for breaks. The Prog stuff is here to stay, but I think labels like Fort Knox and the way that they mess around with tempos and variety of the music is key for breaks. I mean breaks are all about party rocking.... aren't they? -s |

their sound has changed.
they've gotten a lot darker. ill prove my point. compare their elastic breaks mix for mixmag, to the recent one for fabric. you wouldnt think it was them. Quote:

i'm not going to get into this discussion. I have my opinion, you have yours. What i was refferring to though was not their mix compilations, but their production technique, like how they use a lot of stutter edits and delays for example. |

are you just trying to argue with me for the sake of arguing? i dont play a lot of plumps myself either (old & new productions) I was making a comment on their production style - do you know what a stutter edit or a delay is? Regardless though, their shit works on a dancefloor - old and new. |
