favorite classical or composers?

It amazes me how dedicated the musicians of the past were and how passionately they felt about their music.
what are some of your favorite classical tunes?

well in terms of classical i see the music on more different angles other than just composers or songs.... more so the sound of instruments and the performers as well

now sometimes i really think i wasted many years of my life studying the violin because i respect the deep but not too deep tenor sound of the cello and the oboe. its almost a bassline but not quite... its a low riff and melody which i have grown to deeply love over the years.

so i really like yo yo ma. very passionate new age cellist who represents the older times from baroque to new age.

Rachmaninoff's pieces for the piano are amazing. I really enjoy him.

Carmen was really good too. Forgot the composer of that opera, but I was given a CD with the entire opera when I was studying music, and I listened to it many times.

Definately, I TOTALLY agree with you there.. even when it comes down to singers of the past you notice how much dedication they put into developing their voice and dance.. nowadays it seems like a lot of artists are just about sex appeal... nothing more.

If you like classical you should listen to;

Erik Satie-Gymnopedie
(piano or orchestral version)
It seens that there are two or three variations each by the same artist... Gymnopedie one, two, and three.. i believe that n2 was my favorite.

It's got this classic surrealistic sound, and it's been the theme song of many hollywood movies. You might recognize it, it's beautiful and it has a very therapeutic soothing effect.

Gustav Holst...all the planets...fucking beautiful. I love the nutcracker suite, it's fun to listen to, and fun to play on the flute as well! Such pretty harmonies!

Tschaikovsky is good... I'm a big fan of Wagner and his Der Ring des Nibelungen. Also I'm pretty partial to some Mozart.

Since we're on the subject, I think you might be interested to know that at UBC School Of Music's Recital Hall (in the music building) there will be a free concert of New "Classical" music by student composers on Monday March 8th at 12 noon. Feel free to come check it out.
