hmmm
Locals: Kyle Nordman - too hard to label his sounds. very layered, very funky, very ecclectic.. can't wait to see his live pa next month ill-eha- brings the funk back to dnb like no other Tyler Stadius - best dj in town, no doubt Czech - he's the man .... Christian Smith - one of the best dj's in the world. Thick and layered techno with a funky and progressive and electro edge. Sick productions too. Hybrid - those guys rock, nice to see them re-inventing "progressive" with their dj sets and productions Donald Glaude - no one works it like him Lee Burridge - one of the best dj's around. He's a sneaky and cheeky mixer Marco Carola - simply the best techno dj out there right now Felix da Housecat - never heard anyone else been able to pull off some many tempos and decades in one set. sick Agoria - one of the only cutting edge producers currently.. starting to get the recognition Ken Ishii - a technical machine, ninja-techno-styles Michael Mayer - defintiely starting to grow on me |

Ken Ishii was the last good dj to make me almost cream my pants. His set @ kiss blew me away. He is so technically advanced for two turntables and a mixer it makes me want to cry.
his pants were tight too. Spacegirl was the best live PA I ever witnessed. |

jamie anderson
- one of the most interested techno sets ive ever heard. (amsterdam) funk d'void - sick selection, always original, never duplicated live. phil k - always showcasing new aussi talent, and the way he works the FX is really nice. have not seem him live yet, hopefully one day. ritchie hawtin - cause he pushes the limits of the decks, without compromising hands on. james zabiela - really impressed with his enthusiasm and wide variety of tunes he'll drop in a set. Anything and everything it seems. another 4 years at it, and he'll be "the" biggest in the world.. matthew dear - heard a recorded set, it rocked. felix the housecat - programming non existant, beat matching? marginal. party rocker, crowd pleaser, and electro mashups he is the king. sander kleinenberg - until you hear one of his 8 hour sets live, im not even going to bother explaining what its like. james lavelle -unkle sounds, nothing after that though, cookie cutter now. vinyl ritchie -best in vancouver for hip hop, house, breaks, top40 mashup.. does a great job everytime. andrew spence -love the downbeat and house sets with the breaks, and the sax. tyler stadius - great all around, always delivers, spot on yaddah yaddah, but we all know this :). rev -cause he is the only one playing the funky techno in this city, and sticking by it. rolling bass! (and playing out mind you) no more for now as im tired, but vancouver (and the world) has alot of GOOD dj's, just not alot of original ones. everyone wants to be like somone bigger that they listen to, or see in the mags.. just build your own style, don't pigeon hole your tastes in music. just cause it has a different beat under it than your use to dosn't mean its bad music, give it all a chance. The latter above did, thats why they are listed. Be creative. -Kyle |
