You can't expect a promoter too book you just by listening to a mix. There are soooo many djs here in vancouver to choose from why would anyone book you based on how good your demo is. Go to the promoters shows, talk to them, make tons of mix cds and give them to ravers/clubbers they can help you too!!! if you create some sort of buzz around your name a promoter may find who youre. |

A CD is in my mother fucking face. I have to at lest drop it in my bag while traveling. And that is also the best times to really listen to a mix. I don't have much else to do while slumped in my seat waiting to arrive where I'm going. |

I might be an ass hole. But I have 29 years experance of being one, with 5 of those years promoting.
Oh yea running 2 weekly shows for a while, plus good know how many all nighter's under all different production names, side progects, and under MorningGlory it's self. 350+ gigs in sound and lighting. I think I know a bit about life and good under standing of the scene, and sub-scenes in this city. hehehe :kam: |

your not going to get booked just by a demo...no matter how good it is. the majority of promoters will give preference to those that support them and go to their shows and make an effort to actually go out and be @ the shows they want to play at.
myself included on both counts. |

word of mouth is a great way to get promoters interested
first off, breaking into a community and getting yourself known as a person, talkin to peeps and making friends in general is a very good place to start (going to local parties, club nights, message boards). Then getting these new friends to listen to your sound through a recorded cd or web link, and kind of arrange a time that you can listen to the mix simultaneously so you can get on the spot feedback. Whatever critisism you get, listen, and make appropriate goals to work on, but if they like it to the point they start recommending your mixes to their other friends, it will only benefit you more. Once you build a following, it is more likely promoters out there will have heard your name and wanna give you a listen or even a booking |

If your a good enough DJ, the fans will promote you. The best promotion is word of mouth and this kind of hype is priceless. Why do you think labels hire fans to do promotion. :-)
As for DJ's, like Dave said having CD quality mixes is a plus and also getting your face out there. Knowing people in the right places will definetly increase your chances of getting gigs. `t1m |
