new track recording
Holas,
So yeah. Here's a clip from my live set at the Caprice Nightclub a couple of weeks ago. I'd greatly appreciate some critique of both the recording technique and the music itself. The track is called "Collaborate" - ironic, since I don't really like to collaborate with other people on music. http://mux.ca/music/mux_-_collaborat...y_20040225.mp3 The recording was done on both a stereo microphone into a minidisc recorder *and* a line-out from the mixer into a DAT recorder. The two recordings were mixed together and mastered gently in Logic Audio. Spot the illegal samples! There's stuff from Clone High, Eminem, Vanilla Ice and a couple else that I've long since forgotten. Guess I can't ever release this one for vinyl. ;) |

http://mux.ca/gearpr0n.html Been playing with and collecting gear for about seven or eight years now... first synths were a Roland Alpha Juno-2 and a Korg M3R, traded both with a friend for a Tachamine G-330 accoustic guitar in 1997, after getting bitten *hard* by the electronic music bug... Then again, I'm 28 and have never owned a car... :/ |

Alpha Juno-2 Is a wikkid synth. It the studio I was working with there was:
Korg Mono/Poly Yamaha DX-7 (a Mk1 & Mk2) Yamaha TX-7 (DX-7's module) Roland TR-606 Roland Juno 106 Roland MC-202 <-- it fucking SUCKED , but had a phat sound Future Retro FR-777 E-MU XL-1 The Alpha Juno's rack mount version (forget the proper model name) Boss DR-770 Home-Made TB-303 clone (VERY close sound to the real deal) Home-Made 1 Osc synth (we called it "1 Testicle" cause it only had one oscilator) Roland JD-800 Korg PolySix (Nice toy, but completely useless) Access Virus C Yamaha AN-200 Korg Electribe EA-1 (2 of them) Ensoniq ESQ-1 Boss SP-202 (we had it for a week before we ditched it... piece of shit) Roland MKS-7 (Juno 106's rack mount version) Korg Poly 800 (with MODs... Oooo, I don't miss it lol) and last but not least... we baby-sat a Roland Jupiter 6 for a month (and was a good months that was) |

Hmm... the mix does kinda reak of the Live sound... sounds great for rawk n roll... but for this I'd probably scrap the mic recording and just use the lineOut->DAT signal. If you want the sound of the croud, set up a couple unidirectional mics aiming away from the speakers or something. Or fade the mics in just in parts (breakdown/buildups?) where there's croud noise.
I like the track though :) if it's critique you want, I'd say put more of a buildup curve on the vocal loops (collaborate colaborate).. decreasing delay time or rising pitch or something.. I dunno.. [I feel odd critiquing your work, cos its overall so rockin.. :kimmie: ] |
