rane vs. stanton...
so i was thinking about getting final scratch, which seems all good to me now that they have a new version (1.5 for windows xp)
but then im looking around on the net and i see this "scratch live" from rane and serato... it has a perk of comming with two cds as well so your get them and the vinyl with one amp so you dont have to swtich witch seems cool and all, but i will always prefer vinyl... i havent heard of how reliable one is compared to the other, cause i seen a bunch of problems with final scratch like the b deck would work and stuff like that, but i havent seen to many problems with the new version, anyways, any one have any suggestions |

i've gotten the press releases and thats about it. no one has them locally yet and i think my distributor will have them around june.
I've never been a fan of numark and from what i've read people arent liking the technics cd deck either. Right now i'm leaning more towards the denon s5000 because of its ability to be upgraded with software patches. |

The problem with any new gear is that no one likes it immediately. right now pioneer cd decks are the standard. all i would add to them is a moving jog wheel that was not as stiff.
things are gonna get more competitive though which is going to mean more products and more competition and cheaper prices :) |

I just sold my final scratch after gettting the 1.5 upgrade. The windows version sucked, had more bugs than the linux version which was already buggy. My main problem is that it had audio drop outs, which apprently are hardware related to the phillips chipset that stanton decided to use (or NTI, i guess), and there is little that the software can do to solve it.
Anyway, I think the rain product will be a lot better, because they basically took all the things people were bitching about in the final scratch forum and seemed to fix them. Although i'm wondering how the latency is going to be on the new system. That was the second biggest problem i had with final scratch, was that the latency sucked, it was hella hard to lock in long mixes. It was fine for people who mix for like 20 seconds at a time, but mixing was hard, especially pitching. Anyway, saying all that, i went to europe about a month ago, and noticed that about 60% of the time most of the djs were using CDJ-1000 or the 800. i ened up getting a CDJ-800 after i came and i couldn't be happier. Mixing with it is easier, and there is far less cables to bring if i want to play with one. I'm seriously considering getting a second one.., the looping features are sick for techno. |

The Numark CDX is also software upgradeable ... www.platinum-records.com says the CDX can play MP3 .. i emailed numark about it and still no response so that may or may not be true. i tried the CDX out personally. the way u select tracks is with a knob that u turn. its fairly good to select tracks fast but i think u gotta get used to them. the vinyl part is really good because it feels exactly like a turntable since its driven by the same motor as the TTX and set up the same. the only thing that concerned me is that when back spinning past the begining of a song it stopped playing. this could be because i was trying out their protoype and the start stop buttons didnt even work. the loop in loop out function it has is apparently fool proof because even when u arent to good with catching a good loop it will help u a lil bit and select the loop for u sort of. the built in effects pad is pretty cool too but it can make some wierd sounds but not as clean sounding as the Pioneer DJM-909.
but the price of the CDX is cheap and u get true vinyl feel. it can take all scratches from the baby to the tear to the really fast uzi's and skribbles and u dont feel like ur cheating vinyl even though u are .. |
